Find your calling at Mercy! Position Details: Oversees the preparation and dispensing of medication, medication order verification, and ensures the monitoring of patient medication therapy. Acts as a resource for the provision of medication information for patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Identifies, recommends, resolves, and prevents medication‑related problems through intervention with the physician. Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel to ensure the timeliness of medication administration. Follows approved policies, procedures, protocols, and regulatory standards in executing job responsibilities. Safety/Risk Management Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and co‑worker information. Complies with HIPAA Privacy Rule Standards. Adheres to Mercy System and Departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, patient safety, medication use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Uses internal and external information to improve pharmacy operations. Pharmacy Services Oversees the preparation, labeling, dispensing, and delivery of medication. Reviews medication orders, including order verification and order entry, to assess appropriateness for dose, interval, schedule, route, and provides initial clinical screening and monitoring for contraindications, therapeutic duplication, drug interactions, and drug allergies. Identifies, recommends, resolves, and prevents medication‑related problems through direct pharmacist‑physician intervention, including documentation of the intervention in the pharmacy information system. Checks the pharmacy technician and other supportive co‑workers for accuracy of compounding and preparation prior to distribution. Establishes priorities reflected in meeting the needs of patients, department, and staff on a daily basis with awareness of changing needs and demands to ensure timely pharmacy service delivery. Supervises pharmacy technicians and supportive co‑workers during the absence of the manager. Follows departmental policies and procedures related to drug preparation and distribution. Practices Medication Therapy Services through appropriate patient assessment and pharmacy therapy recommendations, including appropriate dose, schedule, route, contraindications, and potential drug interactions. Collaborates with medical staff for clarification and/or recommendations on appropriate drug therapy. Provides drug information/education to patients/families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Responds to referrals for complex questions regarding patient drug therapy and reactions to medications from other healthcare professionals. Orientation, Training, Development, and Performance Management Participates in the departmental orientation and training program for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents and students, and other technical‑supportive co‑workers. Continues professional development by involvement in educational programs and professional activities that enhance pharmacy practice skills. Balances department and individual responsibilities; is open and objective to others’ views and opinions; gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to the position. Education and Licensure Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited School or College of Pharmacy (ACPE). Licensure: Requires a current pharmacist license from the applicable State Board. Preferred Experience: Previous retail experience is preferred but not required. Why Mercy?
