Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. The role will be instrumental in establishing an AI‑enabled environment for rules work, focusing on streamlining current workflows to increase business value and operational efficiency. The individual will undertake intermediate end‑to‑end engineering tasks, including development, analysis, configuration, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation based on user or system design specifications. What Will You Do? • Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions for assignments of intermediate complexity.

• Work with the team to analyze, assess, and resolve defects and incidents of intermediate complexity, escalating as appropriate.
• Execute well‑scoped problems independently within team guidelines.
• Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications Three years of programming/development experience. Experience with Java, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Business Rules Management Systems. Advanced AI technologies highly desired. Experience working in an Agile team and using tools such as JIRA. Intermediate delivery skills: steady, predictable pace, ability to decompose work into small batch releases, and participation in trade‑off and negotiation discussions. Domain expertise: demonstrate the ability to understand and apply technical concepts to the job, cooperate with business issues, and possess in‑depth knowledge of the immediate systems. Problem‑solving skills: debugging expertise, ability to trace issues in unfamiliar code or systems, and to recognize and solve repetitive problems. Strong communication skills: clear, concise interaction with team members, effective documentation, collaboration, and active listening. Intermediate leadership skills: self‑motivation and identification of personal growth opportunities. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related STEM field, or equivalent education and/or work experience. Additional two years of software engineering experience.
