Job Description and Duties

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Within the context of the Office of Correctional Education (OCE) Academic Program requirements, regulation, and guidelines, under the supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction, and under the direction of a credentialed academic Teacher, the Teaching Assistant (TA) shall give support to Teacher(s) by providing educational services to assigned/enrolled students.  The TA’s duties involve: tutoring one-on-one sessions; facilitating small group sessions; correcting student homework, quizzes, and other class work; assisting in testing students; working with the Teacher to assist with monitoring student progress; tracking program completions; assisting with tracking attendance and, other routine classroom duties.

Newly hired State employees may be placed at the minimum of the salary range. Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employee may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

** Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Working Conditions

Folsom State Prison is located approximately 30 miles east of downtown Sacramento and just minutes from old town Folsom.

The grounds of the prison are surrounded by beautiful landscaping and friendly wild animals (deer, squirrels, turkeys, geese, etc.)

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
