Now Hiring: Service Employee / Lot Attendant
Hamden, CT Supporting Hamden Public Schools Pay: $27.40 per hour
Schedule: 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch
Union: Teamsters-represented position At First Student, our Service Employees and Lot Attendants play an important role in keeping our buses fueled, maintained, organized, and ready for service. Working alongside the Maintenance and Operations teams, this position helps ensure our fleet can be dispatched safely and on time each day. This role requires English proficiency. Federal, state, and local requirements, including U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, require training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other job-related communications be conducted in English. - Open the gates to the lot and inspect bus parking areas to ensure vehicles can be dispatched on time
- Reposition buses that may obstruct traffic or interfere with the safe movement of vehicles
- Fuel gas- and diesel-powered fleet vehicles
- Check and refill oil, antifreeze, power-steering fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and windshield-washer fluid
- Visually inspect belts and other basic vehicle components while buses are being fueled
- Maintain accurate fuel, mileage, meter, and inventory records
- Complete required documentation, including Bulk Fuel Receiving Reports, Fuel Variance Reports, Month-End Closing Reports, and Meter Calibration Reports
- Notify the Location Manager or designee when a fuel delivery is needed
- Take and document accurate fuel-tank stick readings before and after deliveries
- Stock required supplies and equipment
- Perform light interior and exterior maintenance on buses
- Assist with light maintenance of the building, grounds, and surrounding lot
- Follow all company safety procedures and environmental requirements
- Complete additional assignments or management requests as needed
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Basic knowledge of vehicle or bus maintenance preferred
- Willingness and ability to learn maintenance and vehicle-servicing skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required reports
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work safely around moving vehicles, fuel, fluids, and maintenance equipment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver's license may be required based on operational needs
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
