Diagnostic Imaging Clerk

The Diagnostic Imaging clerk is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties related to greeting, registering, and scheduling patients for various radiology procedures. This position is responsible for taking information and proper scheduling of patients for procedures following established protocols and guidelines. Work closely with other departments and has a high level of contact with the patients and the public.

Shift: This is a PRN - As needed, position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Utilizing our Electronic Information System to call and schedule appointments for a timely completion of the diagnostic imaging procedures that have been ordered.
• Confirm, cancel or reschedule patient appointments as needed. Answers phones and handles calls in a professional and timely manner.
• Maintains positive interactions at all times with patients, referring offices and staff.
• Schedules patient examinations according to existing order and policy.
• Work with other facilities to get prior imaging exams.
• Work with the business office to obtain pre-authorizations for appropriate imaging exams.
• Print and have patients complete ABNs.
• Collect ABNs and deliver to appropriate personnel. Complete order requisitions when given telephone or verbal orders by Doctors and Nurses and follow up to get the required signed copy from the provider.
• Instruct patients with proper prep for radiology procedures.
• Order entry for patients, including outside physician orders into the computer system.
• Instruct and assist patients with exam questionnaire and consent forms.
• Solid knowledge of all modalities within the scope of Radiology to include CT, MRI, and Ultrasound to include work processes.
• Knowledge of the PACS system.
• Order and keep office supplies stocked.
• Ensure all appropriate personal, financial and insurance information is obtained and recorded accurately.
• Ensure all patient data is entered into the system completely and accurately.
• Ensures patients are advised of financial responsibilities, appropriate clothing, preparation or test, transportation and/or eating prior to appointment.
• Communicates to technologists any scheduling changes in order to ensure highest patient satisfaction.
• Verify that all work is done in a timely manner.

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years medical customer service experience preferred
