Trinidad State College, located in Trinidad, Colorado, is a state-supported, two-year institution of higher education. The College was established by an act of the State Legislature in 1925 and is the oldest public two-year college in the State of Colorado. The College’s Service Area includes eight rural counties characterized by low population density and small communities. One campus is located in Trinidad and is a residential campus while the other, located in Alamosa, is a commuter campus. Both campuses serve distinct populations. As a comprehensive Community College, Trinidad State College not only offers ongoing transfer Associate of Arts Degree and Associate of Applied Science (vocational) Degree programs but also has developed and implemented numerous successful short-term vocational certificate programs, and totally inclusive adult education and developmental programs.

 

Job Summary:

Trinidad State College seeks a highly motivated and dynamic professional to serve as a Career Pathway Navigator under the Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant or Department of Labor Grant (DOL). This position will work with high school counselors, concurrent enrollment, students, parents, college students, and adult learners in the community. Will introduce advanced manufacturing career pathways, is dedicated to supporting students interested in and/or enrolled in the advanced manufacturing career pathways while strengthening connections between education and industry. The Navigator serves as a liaison to regional high schools, students, and employer partners, delivering academic and career-connected services that expand access, retention, completion, and workforce placement. This role emphasizes employer engagement, paid work-based learning, and comprehensive student support, particularly for special populations, non-traditional students, and underserved communities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Outreach Initiatives: Develop and implement outreach initiatives specifically targeted at high school, college, special populations, non-traditional students, and those pursuing education in in the advanced manufacturing fields to help recruit students to meet the participant goals of this grant.
• Maintain current knowledge of work-based learning initiatives and trends within the local community and regional workforce, and systematically track, document, and analyze partnership opportunities, employer engagement, and student placement outcomes to effectively support and guide student career pathways in advanced manufacturing.
• Student Support: Provide guidance and support to CTE students and students in general, addressing their unique needs and challenges to enhance retention and graduation rates in meeting Trinidad States.
• Communication Facilitation: Foster effective and efficient communication between TSC campus locations, as well as with local high schools.
• Industry Engagement: Collaborate with regional employers to establish opportunities such as job shadows, internships, and apprenticeships.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and other college departments to facilitate the seamless operation of the academic programs and initiatives.
• Provide proactive student support for each student under the grant by tracking and monitoring key participant data throughout the grant period, including enrollment status, program pathway (degree or non-degree), demographic information (race/ethnicity), Pell Grant eligibility, and academic progress, using this data to guide advising, identify barriers, and support student persistence and completion.
• Work one on one and with groups of students utilizing telephone, video and/or in person communication tools
• Utilize software tools including banner, EAB Navigate, Degree Works, Handshake, FORAGE, Microsoft office suite to report, track and guide students
• Assist and participate in the Trinidad State College career fairs, present workshops and other events that support preparing students for the programs, workforce, and career readiness.
• Travel between both campuses is required.

Competencies/KSAs:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in higher education or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and execute a wide range of projects simultaneously
• Strong verbal and written skills including ability to present to small and large groups
• A strong commitment and positive attitude toward the educational role of the community college
• Proficiency in the use of technology and the willingness to learn the institutional software for student information and communication systems
• Provide a list of required qualifications

This position is responsible for development of primary prevention and awareness programs for the athletic team for incoming students as well as ongoing prevention and awareness campaigns pursuant to the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act on dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, in collaboration with College staff responsible with overseeing Clery Act compliance.
