Student Assistant

Student Assistant, Making Center Parsons School of Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants to support various shops within the Making Center, a collection of labs, shops, studios, and open work spaces that provide curricular support for making across a broad range of mediums and disciplines. Overview The student assistant will be a personable, proactive, detail‑oriented individual who becomes integral to the daily workings of the facilities. Responsibilities include assisting students and faculty with tool checkout, monitoring space usage, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting shop operations. Responsibilities Report for shift on time and coordinate with Making Center staff on task priorities, upkeep, organization, and maintenance. Assist with WebCheckout, providing students appropriate tools and processing materials for the store. Open and close assigned shops, unlocking resources, and logging into computers as directed. Monitor making spaces, ensure equipment is returned and facilities remain clean and orderly. Notify supervisors of schedule changes and any issues that arise during the shift. Minimum Qualifications Excellent customer service skills. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from a supervisor. Clear communication with Making Center users. Adaptability and consistency when notifying supervisors of schedule changes. Attention to detail. Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds. Capacity to work independently or without close supervision. Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.). Physical ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs regularly and, occasionally, up to 50 lbs. Availability to work non‑traditional hours such as evenings and weekends. Work Mode On‑campus position. Employees are expected to work on‑campus during regularly scheduled hours, as remote work is not feasible for this role.
