Cnc Machinist

Traveling CNC Machinist / ID-OD Grinder / Honing Machinist Pay: Competitive DOE + $160 7 day per diem! Schedule: Full-time, Weekend shift, Overtime Available Location: Rockford, IL Overview We are seeking highly skilled Traveling Machinists with experience in CNC setup and operation, manual honing, and ID/OD grinding. This position is ideal for machinists who enjoy traveling, troubleshooting complex machining applications, and working on high-precision components in a variety of manufacturing environments. Candidates must be able to independently perform machine setups, interpret blueprints, hold tight tolerances, and maintain quality standards while working at customer site. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and other precision machining equipment. Perform precision ID/OD grinding on close-tolerance components. Set up and operate manual honing machines to meet demanding surface finish and dimensional requirements. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications. Inspect finished parts using micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring tools. Troubleshoot machining and quality issues independently in the field. Perform machine adjustments and process improvements to maximize efficiency and quality. Qualifications 5+ years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong experience with CNC machine setup and operation. Experience with manual honing equipment. Experience performing internal (ID) and external (OD) grinding. Ability to work from blueprints and hold tight tolerances. Proficient with precision measurement tools. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Preferred Experience CNC programming and editing Aerospace, defense, power generation, or heavy industrial manufacturing Manual machining and repair work Grinding complex geometries and close-tolerance parts Ideal Candidate We're looking for a machinist who can walk into a shop, set up a CNC machine, run precision ID/OD grinding operations, perform manual honing, troubleshoot issues, and produce quality parts with minimal supervision. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $44.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
