OCO-2026-13i – Communications Intern Program Details Location / Department : Office of the Chief of Staff – Communications, Department of Environmental Protection, 401 East State Street, Trenton, NJ 08625 Work Week : Up to 35 hours per week (5 days per week) | Hourly Rate : $19‑24 per hour (sliding scale) | Opening Date : 7/1/2026 | Closing Date : 7/22/2026 | Existing Vacancies : 1 | Internship Length : 9/21/2026 – 12/11/2026 Scope of Eligibility Open to the general public. Program Description The Office of Communications and Outreach’s intern will assist with daily tasks that track and record social media and news articles and support communications‑related activities on several DEP public education outreach campaigns. The intern will develop skills in writing, stakeholder outreach, social media coordination, video production, and media relations. Specific Responsibilities Assist with drafting social media posts and identifying opportunities to highlight DEP staff and initiatives. Support internal communications coordination. Capture and edit footage of DEP events. Assist with press events. Participate in small special projects that introduce the intern to DEP program areas and the Communications Office. Preferred Area of Study Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in communications, photography/video production, environmental studies, journalism, media relations, political science, or public policy. Licenses & Qualifications Appointees must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license only if vehicle operation is essential to the role.
