Radiology Technician

Responsible for the independent operation of radiology equipment. Perform a wide range of highly technical procedures that requires independent thought, judgment, and discretion. Maintain and utilize equipment and supplies necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body on digital radiography for diagnostic purposes. Perform digital diagnostic radiography of the head, neck spine, chest and body with or without the use of contrast materials. Serve as liaison between patients, licensed practitioners, and other members of the support team by establishing and maintaining a good rapport and professional relationship.

Duties:


1.Prepare and set up x-ray room for patient. Position x-ray equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance. 2.Use beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff. 3.Determine patients' x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians.4.Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician. Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.5.Process digital radiographs using optimal computer-generated methods. Make exposures necessary for the requested procedures, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards. Provide students or other technicians with suggestions of additional views, alternate positioning, or improved techniques to ensure the images produced are of the highest quality. 6.Operate digital picture archiving communications systems. 7.Transport patients to or from exam rooms. 8.Provide assistance to physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures. 9.May operate mobile x-ray equipment. 10.Coordinate work of other technicians or technologists when procedures require more than one person. 11.Collect and maintain records of patients examined, examinations performed, patient medical histories, views taken, or technical factors used. 12.Sanitize and clean equipment to assure that sterile or non-sterile supplies, such as contrast materials, catheters, films, chemicals, or other required equipment, are present and in working order or requisition materials. 13.Complete quality control activities, monitor equipment operation, and report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. 14.Maintain a current file of examination protocols as approved by Medical Director and within the guidelines of the Medical Staff bylaws. 15.Perform general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, or pulling and filing films. 16.Assist with on-the-job training of new employees or students or provide input to supervisors regarding training performance. 17.Prepare contrast material, radiopharmaceuticals, or anesthetic or antispasmodic drugs under the direction of a radiologist. 18.Monitor patients' vital signs and notify provider or nurse of any relevant changes.

Qualifications:


1.One (1) of experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment producing radiographic images.1.Associate Degree in Radiological Science from an accredited college or university preferred.1.Current, active, full and unrestricted license as a Radiologic Technician from any state or the District of Columbia.2.Must be registered/certified with American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in Radiologic Technology.3.Current BLS/ACLS certification.•Knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology & medical terminology. •Knowledge of radiologic practices and techniques.•Knowledge of strong work ethics in the workplace.•Knowledge of basic application of confidentiality.•Knowledge of basic computer skills, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.•Skill in the technical operation, proper maintenance & performance of radiography equipment.•Ability to evaluate radiography exams in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information and communicate this information to the ordering provider. •Ability to integrate diagnostic x-rays, patient history and medical records, and adapt exam as necessary.•Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic information in each exam performed.•Ability to maintain continuing education to enhance growth.•Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.•Ability to work on a regularly assigned or rotational basis to prov ide continuity of services.•Ability to move heavy equipment on wheels, patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.•Ability to accept and learn from feedback.•Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.•Ability to provide exemplary customer service at all times.•Ability to interact positively with others and possess great interpersonal skills. •Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure. •Ability to be a great team player. •Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the organization.•Proficiency in the use of electronic medical/health records and RPMS or similar software as well as imaging software.
