Job Title US Macro Trader Job Family Trading Location 280 Congress Job Overview The position is for a Macro Trader who will focus on execution of orders from portfolio managers across our global book of business, with an emphasis on Foreign Exchange (FX), Global Rates, or Commodities. The role is fundamentally an execution position but offers significant opportunity to add value to client portfolios through collaboration with portfolio managers, analysts and global trading teams in Boston, London and Hong Kong. The trader will work within Wellington’s trading philosophy of best execution, portfolio alpha, and management of regulatory, operational, liquidity and investment risks. Responsibilities Execute orders in a manner consistent with best‑execution and risk‑management practices, using both high‑ and low‑touch execution methods for all relevant accounts. Gather, analyze and disseminate pertinent market, sector and instrument information to identify actionable investment opportunities. Develop an in‑depth understanding of the investment philosophies of portfolio management teams to contribute to the investment dialogue. Monitor and improve efficiency while mitigating risk. Build strong trusting relationships externally with counterparties and other market participants, and internally with portfolio managers, strategists, analysts and other traders. Sollicit trade interest from internal portfolio managers and locate external supply. Communicate action‑oriented opinions clearly and with conviction, contributing to an open investment dialogue. Collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships across the organization. Risk‑management mindset, ability to double‑check work, question anomalies and reconcile throughout the day. Other Qualifications Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience trading currency, rates or commodity markets. Experience trading a wide array of instruments is additive. Undergraduate degree required; CFA/masters degree viewed favorably. Strong analytical skills applied in a highly practical fashion. Pro‑technology mindset and ability to leverage technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Working knowledge of programming languages (SQL, Python, R, MATLAB, etc.) and data‑analysis/visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, etc.) in a financial market context is additive. Self‑starter attitude, ability to proactively identify, review and lead process‑improvement efforts. Impeccable integrity, fiduciary mindset and a client‑first focus. Strong work ethic and the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast‑paced dynamic environment. Precision and risk‑management mindset leading to accurate, compliant work and frequent reconciliation. Compensation Base salary range: USD 120,000 – 225,000. Other rewards may include a discretionary corporate bonus and/or incentives if eligible. All employees are eligible for salary, variable compensation and benefits.
