School-Based Physical Therapist (Pediatric)

Location: Elmira City School District (Elmira, NY) Schedule Options: Full-time, 10-month (summers off) or 12-month

An exciting opportunity awaits a Physical Therapist with a passion for pediatric care to make a lasting difference in a school environment. Work directly with students, aiding their physical growth and enhancing their participation in daily school activities within a supportive and consistent setting.

Your Role

Analyze students, craft personalized treatment plans, and administer therapeutic interventions following top Physical Therapy standards. Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team and report to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate therapy referrals and assess students’ physical requirements
• Create and execute treatment plans featuring therapeutic exercises, gait training, soft tissue methods, modalities, and functional training
• Instruct proper utilization of mobility aids, braces, prosthetics, and adaptive gear
• Track progress and modify treatment plans as necessary
• Coordinate with physicians and care team members to ensure cohesive care
• Complete mandatory documentation (evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries)
• Offer guidance to rehab support personnel
• Maintain safety protocols, equipment, and infection control procedures
• Participate in quality initiatives, meetings, and committees
• Aid in student transport and provide coverage for senior therapists when required
• Engage in continuous education, training, and professional growth opportunities
• Provide age-appropriate care across various populations

Qualifications

• Licensure (or eligibility) as a Physical Therapist in New York State
• BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire
• Preferable experience in hospital or acute care settings

Physical Requirements

• Involves moderate to significant physical activity such as lifting, pushing, and pulling
• Capability to independently lift 30 lbs and up to 150 lbs with assistance

Safety & Infection Control

• Category II exposure (occasional exposure to blood/body fluids)
• Adherence to universal precautions and safety measures
