Bus AideReports To: Bus Driver/Coordinator of TransportationJob Goal: To assist the bus driver in providing the safest and most efficient transportation possible for the special needs students in the DistrictMinimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentDemonstrated success in relevant work experienceAbility and willingness to work in a highly demanding, stressful environmentDemonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with students, parents, and othersAbility to identify and solve problems as a productive team memberAbility to carry out verbal and written instructionsPhysical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity, and mobility to perform job responsibilitiesAbility to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial informationAbility to follow instructions and accept constructive feedbackAbility to stand, walk, stoop, and assist students with specific hygiene needsAbility to transfer students and provide physical intervention when requiredAbility to lift up to fifty (50) poundsCPR certification21 years of age or olderAbility to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may requireDuties and Responsibilities:Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and prioritiesHelps students board and exit school buses; assists the bus driver in maintaining order and comfort on school busesAssists bus driver in keeping routine records related to student transportation or behavior as assignedAssists with movement of students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, and physical intervention)Assists teachers and bus drivers on field trips by helping students with physical needs, maintaining discipline, and reinforcing learning situationsPerforms basic health, first aid, or basic nursing care for special education students as directed or authorized by a school nurseAttends IEP meetings if requestedMaintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace mattersPerforms duties in a courteous and professional mannerDemonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibilityWorks cooperatively and productively with supervisor(s) and other system staff to ensure the system's vision, goals, and strategies are implemented; provides all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel within the designated time frameEngages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadershipReports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnelResponds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive mannerUses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team memberAdheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local lawsPerforms other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
