Responsibilities

• Sort and receive specimens in the laboratory department
• Perform routine instrument maintenance on laboratory equipment
• Carry out tasks such as centrifuging specimens, printing labels, and recording data including temperature charts
• Store and retrieve specimens as needed
• Prepare reagents and media for testing processes
• Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting samples, and checking for clots or fibrin
• Perform inoculation and slide preparation as part of testing procedures
• Carry out quality assurance and control duties as assigned
• Resolve pending specimen lists and locate missing samples
• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests
• Maintain proper records and files for laboratory documentation
• Change gas cylinders and dispose of biohazardous materials following safety protocols
• Follow all PPE, safety regulations, and departmental procedures
• Utilize laboratory computer systems and operate PCs for data entry and record keeping

• Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and safety standards

Additional Skills & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Medical assistant training is helpful
• Math and science coursework preferred
• No prior laboratory experience required; on-the-job training will be provided
• Must be able to work first shift hours
• Ability to retain information and perform tasks with consistency
