Role Overview

As a Conveyor Solutions & Simulation Lead, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and standardizing the conveyor system architecture and simulation methods that support Berkshire Grey’s Stride product platform. This role focuses on reusable conveyor modules, modularity between station configurations, optimal station-to-station interfaces, simulation-backed layout decisions, and design constraints that improve system functionality and make Stride deployments easier to configure, validate, install, scale, and support.

The Conveyor Solutions & Simulation Lead will partner closely with Solutions Architecture, Applications Engineering, Controls, Software, and Hardware Engineering to strengthen the conveyor design and simulation foundation used across Stride deployments. By developing clearer standards, reusable design guidance, modeling assumptions, and optimization methods, this role enables Solutions Architecture to create more consistent customer layouts and Applications Engineering to perform viability reviews against a stronger technical baseline.

Success in this role requires strong systems engineering judgment, automation knowledge, and the ability to use simulation-driven insights to optimize system designs for throughput, accumulation, serviceability, installation, safety, manufacturability, lifecycle cost, and operational performance. Experience with conveyor systems, AutoCAD, and Emulate3D/Sim3D by Rockwell Automation is strongly preferred, but comparable experience with industrial automation layouts, system modeling, simulation tools, or PLC-based automation systems may also be applicable.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain standard conveyor architecture, reusable building blocks, layout rules, and interface requirements for the Stride product platform, including conveyor modules, station interfaces, accumulation strategies, merge/divert behavior, connection methods, and mechanical constraints.
• Establish and document technical standards, reference layouts, design templates, and simulation assumptions for use by Engineering, Applications Engineering, and Solutions Architecture.
• Lead simulation, system behavior, and trade study efforts to evaluate conveyor topology, accumulation, buffering, station-to-station flow, equipment selection, footprint, cost, throughput, operational robustness, bottlenecks, and layout alternatives.
• Develop and maintain simulation models, reusable simulation components, and validation methods that support system-level design decisions.
• Partner with Controls and Software teams to ensure physical conveyor architecture and simulation models reflect sensing, PLC/control logic, fault recovery, traffic management, and system-level behavior.
• Partner with Applications Engineering to ensure solution viability reviews are grounded in clear conveyor standards, validated assumptions, and consistent performance expectations.
• Partner with Solutions Architecture to provide design guidance, layout constraints, and best practices that improve the consistency and scalability of customer-facing system layouts.
• Evaluate third-party conveyor components, vendor capabilities, and integration approaches for fit within BG’s conveyor architecture and simulation environment.
• Translate deployment feedback, customer constraints, field issues, and manufacturing lessons learned into improved conveyor standards, simulation assumptions, and productized design updates.
• Maintain conveyor and simulation documentation, including standard layouts, interface control documents, design guides, modeling assumptions, validation methods, and engineering decision records.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship in conveyor system optimization, simulation methods, and cross-functional design decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience designing, modeling, optimizing, or validating industrial automation systems, warehouse automation layouts, robotic systems, conveyor systems, or related equipment.
• Experience with conveyor design, accumulation, buffering, merges, diverts, station interfaces, equipment utilization, and material flow constraints.
• Experience with AutoCAD or a similar 2D/3D layout tool for facility layouts, conveyor layouts, or technical design documentation.
• Experience with Emulate3D / Sim3D by Rockwell Automation or a similar simulation/modeling tool.
• Strong understanding of throughput, bottlenecks, service access, safety, installation, maintainability, MTBF/MTTR, OEE, and operational robustness.
• Ability to make clear engineering tradeoffs across performance, cost, footprint, manufacturability, serviceability, customer requirements, and system behavior.
• Experience providing technical leadership to engineers, including setting direction, reviewing work, mentoring team members, and coordinating execution across disciplines.
• Ability to define and communicate technical strategy, assumptions, priorities, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, operations, applications, and solutions architecture teams.

 

Bonus Qualifications

• PLC experience or strong familiarity with industrial controls systems.
• Experience working with conveyor vendors, systems integrators, installation teams, customer site engineering teams, or automation partners.
• Experience developing standards, design guides, templates, or reusable engineering tools for cross-functional use.
• Experience with Python and/or C++ for simulation, automation, data analysis, tooling, or performance profiling.
• Experience with Nvidia Omniverse, digital twins, virtual commissioning, MBSE tools, or other system modeling frameworks.
• Experience developing reusable simulation components, APIs, SDKs, or modeling tools.
• Experience with robotics simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, software-in-the-loop testing, or production software integration.
• Experience designing conveyor systems for robotic automation, fulfillment, parcel, logistics, manufacturing, or warehouse automation environments.
• Experience integrating conveyor systems with robots, sorters, scanners, sensors, PLCs, safety systems, WMS/WES/WCS platforms, or customer facility controls.
• Familiarity with Git, Jira, Linux / Ubuntu environments, CI/CD practices, code reviews, or modern software development workflows.
