Environmental, Health Safety, Training & Plant Administration Manager
Atlas Roof & Wall Insulation a Division of Atlas Roofing Corporation specializes in the manufacture of quality engineered polyiso insulation, specialty products, and accessories. Atlas Roof Insulation & Wall Insulation products lead the industry in polyiso insulation boards and facer technology and performance in commercial and residential buildings.
Atlas Roof & Wall Insulation is seeking a Health Safety and Environmental /Administrative Assistant for the LaGrange, GA. polyiso foam manufacturing facility.
We are seeking a highly organized, safety-focused, and detail-oriented Environmental, Health, Safety, Training & Plant Administration Manager to lead our facility's environmental, health and safety programs, employee training, regulatory compliance, purchasing support, and key plant administrative functions.
This position will be responsible for maintaining a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, provincial, and municipal regulations, managing environmental and hazardous-material programs, coordinating employee training, overseeing contractor safety, and supporting plant operations. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem solver who can work independently, communicate effectively with employees at all levels, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental, Health & Safety
- Promote and administer company safety policies and programs with the goal of achieving zero workplace injuries and incidents.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment and reinforce a culture where safety is the first priority.
- Administer, maintain, and continuously improve company HS&E programs, policies, procedures, and facility-specific safety initiatives.
- Ensure OSHA compliance and complete required OSHA reporting, including OSHA 300/301 records and annual summaries.
- Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, audits, and incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Lead internal and external incident investigations and ensure timely completion of accident and injury reporting.
- Identify applicable federal, state, provincial, and municipal regulatory requirements and monitor regulatory changes that may affect operations.
- Manage government inspections, environmental and safety audits, and required regulatory reporting.
- Maintain safety equipment throughout the facility and ensure employees are properly trained in its use.
- Manage PPE programs, including purchasing, inventory, distribution, and employee training.
- Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure required SDS reporting and accessibility.
- Manage emergency response, fire safety, first aid, CPR, bloodborne pathogen, and other applicable safety programs.
- Develop, implement, document, and maintain HS&E emergency response systems.
- Maintain the facility HS&E orientation program and ensure new employees and temporary workers receive required orientation.
- Coordinate with the company clinic regarding employee injuries, workers' compensation claims, drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment physicals, and drug screens.
- Coordinate required annual inspections, including hoists, slings, fire safety systems, and other safety equipment.
- Maintain fall protection programs and other job-specific safety programs.
- Manage contractor safety compliance in accordance with corporate requirements and facility policies.
- Support the Safety Committee and facilitate safety meetings and initiatives.
- Establish auditing systems to evaluate compliance with company standards, regulations, hazard analyses, safe work procedures, and environmental requirements.
Environmental & Hazardous Materials Compliance
- Manage hazardous materials, hazardous waste, chemical storage, transportation, and disposal programs.
- Coordinate hazardous-material training and annual HAZWOPER refresher training.
- Maintain hazardous-material shipping and Bill of Lading procedures and ensure DOT training compliance for employees who handle, ship, or receive chemicals.
- Manage hazardous waste disposal activities and maintain qualified treatment/disposal vendors.
- Maintain records and reporting related to chemical usage, waste, emissions, and environmental compliance.
- Manage chemical spill response, reporting, cleanup coordination, and remediation supplies.
- Maintain required environmental permits and ensure permits are acquired, updated, and kept in compliance.
- Complete required environmental reports, including applicable Tier II/SARA reporting, waste reporting, stormwater reporting, air-emissions reporting, and other regulatory submissions.
- Manage stormwater inspection and reporting programs and communicate deficiencies to plant management.
- Maintain records of chemical, adhesive, aerosol, gas, waste, and other regulated materials.
- Coordinate Employee and Community Right-to-Know requirements and associated training.
- Maintain environmental documentation and provide required reports to corporate environmental leadership.
Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Manage and maintain the facility PSM program under the direction of the Plant Engineer/Plant Manager.
- Maintain PSM files, procedures, training records, and required documentation.
- Conduct annual procedure reviews and communicate changes to affected employees.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) processes and ensure changes are properly documented and communicated.
- Monitor maintenance revisions and review applicable procedures.
- Maintain and archive maintenance and quality assurance check sheets related to PSM and chemical unloading operations.
- Support compliance with applicable process safety and chemical handling requirements.
Training & Development
- Develop, coordinate, deliver, and document safety and job-specific training for employees, new hires, temporary workers, and contractors.
- Deliver monthly safety training and maintain required training documentation.
- Conduct training needs assessments to identify training goals, objectives, resources, and performance requirements.
- Design, revise, and present training programs and supporting materials as operational needs change.
- Maintain a comprehensive training matrix, including lift equipment and other required certifications.
- Coordinate required first aid, CPR, HAZWOPER, bloodborne pathogen, DOT, and other regulatory training.
- Evaluate training effectiveness to verify learning objectives have been met.
- Maintain a safe and compliant training environment.
- Ensure training programs remain aligned with OSHA, company, and regulatory requirements.
Purchasing & Plant Support
- Purchase direct and indirect materials required to support manufacturing and plant operations.
- Manage PPE, first aid supplies, office supplies, lunchroom supplies, and other facility-related materials.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure critical supplies are available when needed.
- Support chemical forecasting and vendor coordination.
- Monitor and report applicable manufacturing material costs and usage.
- Maintain vendor documentation, including certificates of insurance and other required records.
- Utilize ERP/PeopleSoft and other computer systems to collect data, manage supplies, and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor and report scheduled versus actual machine hours as required.
- Provide professional administrative support to the plant and employees.
- Maintain office equipment and coordinate necessary services.
- Plan and coordinate plant events, including luncheons, lunch-and-learns, facility tours, presentations, and employee activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred; or five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in environmental, health and safety, manufacturing, training, plant administration, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, environmental regulations, hazardous materials, safety programs, and regulatory reporting.
- Experience with PSM, HAZWOPER, DOT, SDS management, incident investigation, and contractor safety is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook/email, PowerPoint, and related computer systems.
- Experience with ERP systems such as PeopleSoft is preferred.
- Ability to learn quickly and retain detailed information regarding company processes, customers, products, regulations, and systems.
