Job Summary The County of Mono is seeking an Appraiser Aide to provide specialized clerical and technical support to professional appraisal staff within the Assessor’s Office. This position plays an important role in researching property records, reviewing deeds and ownership documents, processing property tax exemptions, maintaining appraisal records, and assisting with determinations related to changes in ownership and reappraisable events. The Appraiser Aide may also assist with field inspections of land, structures, and property improvements; gather and verify property information; perform calculations; prepare records and reports; and respond to questions from the public regarding property records, maps, deeds, and appraisal procedures. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in property appraisal and assessment practices while supporting the County’s property assessment responsibilities. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with property records, legal descriptions, and numerical information. This individual enjoys research and problem-solving and is able to gather, analyze, and accurately record information from a variety of sources. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain information clearly and professionally when working with the public, County staff, and other agencies. The ideal candidate is also someone who is eager to learn the principles and practices of property assessment and appraisal. The ability to follow established procedures, perform mathematical calculations accurately, maintain thorough records, and establish cooperative working relationships will be important to success in this role. Experience in an Assessor’s Office or appraisal setting is not required; the position is designed as a bridge into the professional appraisal field for someone with the aptitude and interest to grow in this area. Department Overview The Assessor’s Office is responsible for determining the value of taxable property within Mono County and maintaining accurate property assessment records in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The office works with property owners, public agencies, and other stakeholders to research property ownership, review recorded documents, process applicable exemptions, and maintain accurate information used in property assessment. As an Appraiser Aide, this position supports the professional appraisal team while gaining practical experience with property records, legal descriptions, ownership changes, exemptions, appraisal procedures, and field inspections. Special Requirements Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California driver's license. Typical Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods. Frequently stand and walk. Ability to walk in uneven terrain for extended periods. Normal manual dexterity and eye‑hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Verbal communication. Use of audio‑visual equipment. Use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, and E‑fax. Ability to operate an automobile.

Work is performed in an office environment and in the field; frequent contact with staff and the public Mono County Summary Of Benefits The following information is intended to provide a summary of benefits and does not include full details of coverage. Service limitations and restrictions may apply depending on coverage levels and services rendered. Pay Periods and Payroll Deductions County employees are paid on a bi‑weekly basis, which consists of 26 pay periods per year. Payroll deductions including medical and most voluntary deductions will occur on a semi‑monthly basis or 2 times per month. Retirement contributions will always be deducted on all 26 pay periods. Medical Mono County Contracts with CalPERS To provide health insurance for its employees and currently offers several Preferred Provider (PPO) Plans which are administered by Anthem Blue Cross. Employees have the option to choose from PERS Gold, PERS Platinum, and PORAC. The PORAC Plan is currently only available to members of the Safety group employee’s. Medical plan costs vary based on the plan and coverage you select. The employee and the County share the cost of the plan, which is deducted on a pre‑tax basis. The employee’s cost is in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding with each bargaining group. For more information regarding health plans, please visit: Dental Mono County Offers a self‑insured dental plan administered by Ameritas. Dental premium coverage is provided to eligible Mono County employees at 100% employer paid. Vision well/vision exam every 12 months, carries a $10 copay.- 160 allowance for frames and 20% off amount over allowance.
- 180 allowance for contacts and contact lens exam and 15% off contact lens fitting and evaluation. Currently Vision coverage is provided to eligible Mono County employees at 100% employer paid.
SICK & VACATION
Sick – (Unless an applicable collective bargaining agreement provides otherwise) Eligible employees will accrue sick leave at the rate of 12 sick days per year. Permanent part‑time employees accrue sick leave on a prorated basis. Vacation– (Unless an applicable collective bargaining agreement provides otherwise) Eligible employees shall be entitled to accrue vacation leave with pay for each year of full‑time service as follows: Initial employment ----------------------------------10 days vacation per year After three years of continuous service-----—15 days vacation per year After ten years of continuous service—-------17 days vacation per year After fifteen years of continuous service--—19 days vacation per year After twenty years of continuous service-—20 days vacation per year Permanent part‑time employees accrue vacation on a prorated basis. Mono County Holidays Mono County recognizes 16 holidays as outlined in the Mono County Policies and Procedures and Personal Holidays according to the specific MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) according to your represented group. Statement on Remote Work Policy Mono County does not permit fully remote positions. All employees are required to perform their job duties in person at their designated work location(s) to ensure compliance with Mono County policies, state labor laws, applicable tax regulations, and operational requirements. Requests for intermittent remote work may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis at the discretion of the Department Head, with approval from the County Administrative Officer (CAO).
