Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Hackensack, NJ Every other Sunday night and some night/evenings to fill in 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM shift. Pay & Compensation Pay range: $32.00 – $50.73 per hour. Shift differential of 10% for second shift hours and 15% for third shift hours may apply. Salary is based on experience, education, certifications, and may include an annual performance bonus. Provide support to the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting and record maintenance. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STAT or critical results. Ensure reagents/test kits have received, expiration, and opened dates. Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and instrument function; decide disposition of an assay or test. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems related to test procedures. Report any deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures; cooperate with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Assume lead responsibilities when supervisor is absent, if qualified and delegated. Other duties as assigned. This is a general description of work performed. Qualifications Required Work Experience: One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in molecular testing and gram stain experience. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds; stand at bench for long periods; frequent walking or standing; manual dexterity for pipettes and instruments. Knowledge: Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty; knowledge of policies and procedures; BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; foreign‑educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF; U.S. candidates must provide an original transcript; other state requirements may apply. Skills: Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills; detail‑oriented, independent, able to prioritize tasks; interpersonal skills with supervisors, co‑workers, and clients; telephone communication skills; confidentiality handling; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems. Education: Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred); Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry (preferred). Licenses and Certifications: ASCP Certification (preferred).
