POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Reporting to the Supervisor, Athletic Training, the Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the athletic training program by assisting with injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, and care for student-athletes. Responsibilities include providing first aid and emergency care; managing injury treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up in accordance with medical direction and standard practices; evaluating injuries; providing event coverage; assisting with health screenings and medical referrals; and maintaining accurate health records.
The role also includes implementing taping and protective measures, monitoring environmental and safety conditions, advising coaches and athletes on conditioning, nutrition, and safe participation, contributing to return-to-play and training programs, inspecting equipment and facilities, facilitating communication regarding injuries, and offering general guidance to students.

Work Schedule
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some evening and weekend hours depending on sport schedules.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in physical therapy, physical education with an emphasis in athletic training, or a closely related field, AND two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the conditioning and treatment of student-athletes; OR
  • Candidates graduating after 2022 must possess a master's degree in physical therapy or physical education with an emphasis in athletic training or a closely related field, AND two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the conditioning and treatment of student-athletes, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience is evaluated based on a verifiable 40-hour work week; prorated part-time experience may be accepted; OR
  • Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position; AND
Certificates/ Licenses/And Other Requirements
  • Current, valid certification as an Athletic Trainer, Certified (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC). Employee must remain in good standing with the NATA and fulfill the continuing educational requirements to maintain BOC certification throughout duration of employment with the District; AND
  • Valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certificate (BLS or equivalent) prior to employment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
  • Education Code § 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that they are free of active tuberculosis.
  • As a condition of employment, the District requires that you provide fingerprints prior to beginning work. You may be fingerprinted at Butte College Human Resources by appointment, or you may be fingerprinted at another agency. Should you be fingerprinted at another agency, the rolling fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility at the time of printing.
