Job Description The Occupational Therapist is responsible for organizing, evaluating, and providing occupational therapy services to restore function, improve independence, and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of function. This role collaborates closely with physicians, interdisciplinary care teams, patients, and families to develop individualized treatment plans that promote optimal outcomes and safe discharge planning. The Occupational Therapist maintains the highest standards of professional and ethical practice while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care utilizing current evidence-based practices and emerging therapeutic techniques. The Occupational Therapist promotes a culture of safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service in accordance with Williamson Medical Center policies, State regulations, and accepted standards of care. Formal Education / Training Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program. Current Occupational Therapist licensure by the State of Tennessee. BLS certification within 90 days of hire. Workplace Experience Acute care or hospital-based rehabilitation experience preferred. Equipment and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of occupational therapy principles, evaluation techniques, treatment interventions, and current standards established by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Ability to function independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Strong clinical judgment, organizational, communication, and time management skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities. Proficient with electronic medical records and hospital computer systems. Equipment utilized includes standard patient care equipment, rehabilitation equipment, Network Computer System, and AT&T Language Line. Physical Environment Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. May provide care for combative or medically complex patients. May be required to provide occupational therapy services throughout the organization based upon demonstrated competency. Physical Requirements Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Frequent walking throughout the hospital. Frequently lifts, transfers, positions, and ambulates patients safely. Frequently pushes, pulls, and transports equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and manual dexterity required. Occasionally lifts or retrieves supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds from overhead storage. Must be capable of safely assisting with patient evacuation procedures, including transporting patients via stretcher or wheelchair. Must be able to safely maneuver and support patient weight during treatment interventions. Key Results Performs comprehensive initial evaluations and ongoing patient assessments to determine functional limitations and establish individualized treatment goals. Develops, implements, and modifies evidence-based occupational therapy treatment plans utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Provides occupational therapy interventions that maximize patient function, independence, and safety while progressing patients appropriately through each phase of treatment. Coordinates discharge planning through patient and family education, development of home exercise programs, equipment recommendations, and appropriate discharge referrals. Collaborates effectively with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation team members, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care. Maintains timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and professional standards. Provides clinical instruction, guidance, and mentorship to students, rehabilitation technicians, and newly hired team members. Maintains a safe, organized, and professional treatment environment that reflects departmental and organizational standards. Effectively manages patient caseloads and prioritizes workload to ensure timely, high-quality patient care. Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives, process improvement activities, and continuing education to support organizational goals. Demonstrates commitment to professional development through maintenance of clinical competency and ongoing education. Models professionalism, compassion, and patient-centered service while supporting a collaborative work environment focused on safety, excellence, and continuous improvement.
