Job Overview The Software Development Engineer III position is part of the Payments Reconciliation team within Expedia Global Payments, under the Book‑to‑Trip division. The team builds and maintains consumer reconciliation services and the administrative tools used to configure the entire consumer payments ecosystem, ensuring operational health of payment processing on the platform. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain scalable backend payment services that support Expedia’s global travel platform. Apply software design principles, data structures, and design patterns to write clean, maintainable, optimized, modular code with good naming conventions. Implement secure data handling practices to protect payment information and meet compliance standards. Recommend and apply architectural patterns or GenAI capabilities to improve system design and innovation. Enhance service reliability through observability, automation, and continuous operational improvements. Lead and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑impact features aligned with Expedia’s strategic goals. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant hands‑on experience building and operating distributed cloud services. Proficiency in Java/J2EE, C#, or similar object‑oriented languages, with hands‑on experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure/test automation, and delivering features in Agile development environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience working on payment platforms or implementing backend services leveraging GenAI technologies. Experience contributing to multiple multi‑quarter, cross‑team projects. Experience supporting complex distributed systems in production through monitoring, debugging, incident resolution, and root‑cause analysis. Demonstrated experience designing and deploying scalable services in a cloud environment (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Location & Compensation Seattle, WA. The role requires employees to be in‑office at least three days a week and does not offer relocation assistance. Cash range: $146,000.00 to $204,500.00, with potential to increase to $233,500.00 based on performance.
