Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse
Profession: RN

Must-Have: 2 or more years of experience in a similar facility with comparable patient volume, trauma level, and size.
Description:
Candidates may not have been directly employed by any associated facility within the past year.
Candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered.
RN must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam with a score of 83% before signing the contract.
They will have three attempts to pass the exam.
Call-outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination.
The RN may be asked to precept as needed by the unit.
The position involves floating between two campuses approximately 16 minutes apart.
The facility is a Level III Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities.
The ER has 30 beds and 2 trauma bays, with a combination of acute care.
There is a Fast Track area known as vertical care.
A separate triage area exists that funnels patients into vertical care and acute care beds.
Travelers may be placed in triage after their skills have been assessed.
Holds are intermixed within the ER, and all patients, including those in holding, will be cared for by ER RNs.
Security is present in-house 24/7, with an officer assigned to the ER.
On average, the ER treats approximately 135 patients daily.
Nurse-patient ratios may vary depending on acuity, with general acute care ratios of 1:3-4.
Level I traumas may have ratios of 1:1 or 2:1 based on acuity.
The facility is equipped to handle a variety of common diagnoses and types of patients, including trauma cases and pediatric patients.
Common drips administered include Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed.
A physician is available in the ER 24/7 and mid-level providers are staffed continuously.
A free-floating charge nurse may take an assignment if needed and responds to codes and rapid responses on floors.
Patient Care Techs hold multiple positions and assist with various duties, including EKGs and wound care.
Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 in the ER for procedures such as ABGs and breathing treatments.
RNs are responsible for monitoring telemetry and transporting patients for X-rays or CT scans.
Phlebotomy services are available in the ER 24/7 for lab draws.
The scheduling will involve some self-scheduling and block scheduling to meet unit needs.
Weekend shifts are required every other week, with holiday shifts rotating among core staff.
There is no on-call or standby requirement for this position.
Scrubs should be navy blue, and undershirts must also be navy.
Unit-specific orientation will include shifts in the ER.
A positive culture and team environment exist, with active staff representation in governance structures.
The facility may cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
The charting system used in the ER is MEDITECH.
