Application Engineer - Gas Compression

Horton, Inc. has an opening for an Application Engineer- Gas Compression to work at our location in Roseville, MN. This job is onsite Monday-Friday. 

Position Summary:

Responsible for working with customers, suppliers, and internally to customize Horton products to meet customer’s technical needs. This will include supporting designs through all stages of development and production including helping with the technical needs of sales, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing. Manages the release of products to meet the needs of customers in a timely manner, while ensuring products meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities

Application Engineer Responsibilities:

• Designs new products.
• 1.1Works closely with customers to develop an understanding of the customer's needs.
• 1.2 Helps customer to choose the best product for their application. Modifies existing products and creates custom solutions to best-fit customer application.
• 1.3 Completes initial design work necessary to provide engineering prints and models to the customer.
• 1.4 Coordinates and builds initial prototype designs.
• 1.5 Coordinates and performs necessary testing and analysis to ensure Horton and customer DVP and performance requirements are satisfied.
• 1.6 Works with the quality department to ensure all PPAP requirements are met and provided to customers.
• 1.7 Manages the release of products into production through Horton’s product realization process.
• 1.8 Supports products after release, providing troubleshooting and diagnosis of issues, both remotely and in-person.
• 1.9 Tracks the progress of projects and manages project schedule.
• 2. Supports the on-going improvement of existing product designs and processes.
• 2.1 Provides technical expertise and voice-of-customer in support of improvements to existing product designs.
• 2.2 Develops tools to improve processes and products in order to increase throughput.
• 3. Provides design related support to the sales and management functions, assisting sales staff to respond to customer requests.
• 3.1 Attends sales and marketing planning meetings to discuss design needs and brainstorm for ideas regarding ways to meet specific customer or general market requirements.
• 3.2 Travels to customer locations with sales staff to observe applications and collect information necessary for addressing specific customer needs.
• 3.3 Attends trade shows and answers technical questions while staffing the trade show booth.
• 4. Participates in the process of screening suppliers and their products for use by Horton.
• 5. Provide technical customer service in the field, which helps customers to be successful in their application of company products.
• 5.1 Provide on-site assistance to customers, including dealers, OEM's, distributors or fleet customers experiencing problems with application of company products.
• 5.2 Provide field service to diagnose or repair equipment to meet the standards of operation required by clients.
• 5.3 Meets with various levels of customer staff, including decision makers and product users, to resolve problems with product applications.
• 5.4 Provides diagnosis of field failures and reports the information.
• 5.5 Helps maintain field service-related working files to track product trends on problems and issues and reports to the Engineering Manager when a product shows signs of potential trouble.
• 5.6 Troubleshoots problems and attempts to identify causes for warranty problems in order to prevent repeat occurrences.
• 5.7 Works with Engineering Manager, Sales account personnel and Warranty Manager to resolve matters regarding the warranty of sold goods.
• 6. Coordinates product field tests to determine production use suitability of new or improved designs.
• 6.1 Works with Engineering personnel to set up field tests in order to work out specific existing or potential future problems.
• 6.2 Collection of performance information in the field and the writing of detailed reports that provide design development information to the engineering staff.
• 7. Provide technical training in support of Horton employees.

Qualifications

Application Engineer Qualification s:

• Requires a four year engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution; BS in Engineering
• CAD
• FEA
• Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. No Visa sponsorship provided now or in the future for this position.

Additional Information:

The estimated hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year plus bonus. Compensation will increase within the range based on experience and qualifications.
