Sales Engineer - HVAC Systems

We are seeking a technical and customer-focused Sales Engineer to support growth in our commercial HVAC business. The Sales Engineer will combine engineering expertise in HVAC, steam, hydronic and control systems with consultative selling skills to identify opportunities, specify solutions, and close projects. The role balances field engagement, proposal development, and collaboration with engineering and service teams to deliver energy-efficient, code-compliant systems that meet client objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with prospects and existing customers to assess HVAC requirements, evaluate existing systems (steam, hydronic, controls), and recommend optimized solutions that balance performance, reliability, and cost.
• Develop technical proposals, system schematics, equipment selections, and detailed scopes of work for HVAC projects, including steam and hydronic applications.
• Support the sales cycle by preparing and delivering technical presentations, product demonstrations, and ROI/energy-savings analyses to owners, engineers, and contractors.
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, estimating, and service teams to ensure accurate costing, smooth project handoffs, and successful project execution.
• Respond to RFPs/RFQs, develop bid packages, and manage technical clarifications during procurement and negotiation.
• Provide pre- and post-sales technical support, including startup assistance, commissioning oversight, and troubleshooting for HVAC, steam, and controls systems as needed.
• Maintain relationships with key accounts, track opportunities in CRM, and meet or exceed sales targets and KPIs.
• Stay current with HVAC industry codes, standards, product developments, and energy-efficiency best practices; represent the company at trade shows and industry events.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in technical sales or sales engineering for commercial HVAC systems, including hands-on familiarity with steam and hydronic systems.
• Proven ability to size and specify HVAC equipment and controls, interpret mechanical drawings, and produce technical proposals.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with experience engaging owners, consulting engineers, and contractors.
• Demonstrated track record of meeting sales targets and managing complex technical sales cycles.
• Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), HVAC sizing tools, and MS Office; experience with energy modeling or controls programming is a plus.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, job sites, and trade shows; valid drivers license.
