Outpatient Coding Auditors (FT and PT)

Remote VA Experienced Outpatient Coding Auditors (Full-Time and Part-Time Positions Available) Cooper Thomas, LLC—an established provider of medical coding, auditing, and training services to the Department of Veterans Affairs—is hiring up to five (5) experienced Outpatient Auditors for new multi‑year VHA contracts. Positions are available as either 1099/Subcontractor or W‑2 (with or without benefits). Applicants must have at least three (3) years of medical coding or auditing experience within the last five (5) years, possess a current US citizenship, pass an initial coding entrance exam, and hold an active background investigation, COI, PIV card, eToken, and an active VA Contractor’s Citrix Access Account or Moonlighter Account. We pay bi‑weekly without exception. A signing bonus is available for qualified candidates who can begin work promptly; enhanced bonuses apply for those with an active Moonlighter or Contractor Network Account. Qualifications Must perform the full scope of multi‑specialty OP clinic, ED, minor procedure, radiology, rehabilitation, and lab encounters utilizing ICD‑10, CPT, and HCPCS codes. At least three (3) years of VA or other relevant coding experience, ideally with a VA‑supporting government contractor or as a VA employee. At least three (3) years of VA or other relevant auditing experience, ideally with a VA‑supporting government contractor or as a VA employee. Thorough working knowledge of VHA coding guidelines and ability to follow site‑specific coding guidelines. Familiarity with E/M leveling for OP and ED visits and with current coding guidelines. Proficiency with an E/M calculator and the 3M Encoder for ICD‑10 and CPT coding. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology and disease processes, pharmacology, health record format and content, reimbursement methodologies and conventions, and rules for current classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS). Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work as part of a project‑team environment. Accepted Coding Credentials American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA): Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) / Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) / Certified Coding Specialist‑Physician (CCS‑P) American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC): Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) Minimum Education High School Diploma or equivalent.
