At First Commerce Credit Union, we're committed to being our members' financial partner for life - and our commercial underwriters play a critical role in supporting local businesses and strengthening our communities.As a Commercial Loan Underwriter, you'll review and analyze commercial loan applications, evaluate financial and credit data, and make informed decisions that support both member success and sound lending practices. You'll also serve as a trusted partner to internal teams, providing guidance on credit quality, risk, and loan structuring.What you'll be doing:You'll perform in-depth analysis of commercial loan requests - reviewing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and credit reports to determine repayment ability and overall creditworthiness. You'll evaluate collateral, including appraisals, title reports, leases, and other supporting documentation to ensure adequate loan security.Using your expertise, you'll assess risk through detailed financial modeling, ratio analysis, projections, and stress testing. You'll also review legal and organizational documents, ensure loan documentation accuracy, and support loan officers with ongoing portfolio management, including annual reviews.In addition, you'll take a leadership role by supporting underwriting staff, providing training and guidance, and assisting with complex or high-value credit relationships. You'll stay up to date on lending policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices-ensuring compliance and consistent decision-making across the organization.What you bring to the table:Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting or credit analysisStrong analytical, financial modeling, and decision-making skillsIn-depth knowledge of commercial lending, credit evaluation, and loan structuringExcellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence and guide othersFamiliarity with lending regulations and compliance requirements, including fair credit practicesAbility to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across all levels of the organizationProficiency in Microsoft Office and lending systemsWhy First Commerce?We're a full-service, member-owned credit union with deep roots in the community and a bold vision for the future.
