Overview NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is a full‑service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It is part of a comprehensive network of affiliated ambulatory and outpatient practices, serving as NYU Langone Health's anchor for healthcare access, growth, and delivery in the borough. Position Summary Physician Assistant – Surgical Services – Brooklyn. The Physician Assistant will provide care to patients in the Department and its subspecialties as required. The PA will follow established standards and procedures, and give specific patient care directions to nursing and other staff. Job Responsibilities Practice within the scope of delineated privileges. Provide direct care to individuals and families consistent with the philosophy of NYU Langone Health‑Brooklyn and departmental/institutional goals, including patient safety, well‑being, and confidentiality. Provide diagnostic and assessment services using a problem‑solving approach: obtain a detailed history and perform physical examinations on assigned patients; consider age, growth, and developmental stage when assessing, treating, or caring for the patient. Write appropriate orders, including narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs after consulting with a physician. Implement a therapeutic regime or protocol appropriate for the diagnosis in accordance with institutional protocols and after consultation with the attending physician; monitor the patient’s response and notify the attending physician of any changes. Consult specialists and/or medical preceptor for complex patient care situations. Document all patient encounters, including assessment and progress notes, treatment rendered, patient teaching, and follow‑up referrals. Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics necessary for administrative purposes and reimbursement, including discharge summaries. Evaluate and manage critical care patients. Perform emergency life‑saving procedures in the absence of a physician. Participate in rounds with attending staff and/or housestaff on assigned patients. Collaboratively work with other healthcare professionals and families during admissions, care, and discharge transitions. Provide preventive health services, including counseling and teaching on health maintenance and related issues. Participate in quality‑improvement activities as needed. Participate in committees as appropriate. Attend all scheduled departmental meetings and conferences. May need to be on call during non‑working hours to assist attendings in urgent or emergent situations/procedures. Direct, instruct, and evaluate activities of PA and medical students as appropriate. Participate in activities fostering professional growth and maintenance of certification. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. DEA certificate required. Required licenses: Physician Assistant Lic‑NYS, National Certified Physician Assistant, Basic Life Support Certificate. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics, as may be required based on selected privileges.
