Assistant Nurse ManagerThe University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing, is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager interfaces with the administrative and clinical nursing staff to provide leadership in improving and maintaining the delivery of care processes for a specific unit and/or patient populations. The Assistant Nurse Manager assumes delegated responsibility for implementation of daily operations for specific units and/or patient populations.Key ResponsibilitiesParticipates in the assessment and evaluation of nursing care requirements for the patient populationAssists in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care for a patient population, which are consistent with current nursing practice and the condition and age of the patientsAssesses patient care to ensure that patient assignment system reflects patient care needs and staff capabilitiesMonitors and contributes to individual patient care and discharge planning activities carried out by unit staff nursesCollaborates with multidisciplinary team members and implements care planning activities for specific group of patientsServes as a role model for staff by demonstrating clinical expertise when providing direct patient careServes as a resource for patient care problemsPractices according to department/division/unit policies, procedures, protocols and practice guidelines to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staffCollaborates with the Nurse Manager to assist with implementation of division and unit(s) strategic plansCollaborates with Nurse Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of division/unit Quality Management programCoordinates unit(s)-based QM/RU committeesUses relevant nursing research to improve clinical practiceProvides input into financial management activities including operational budgetary decisions and cost containment.Coordinates and/or participates in the implementation of specific cost control strategies identified by the Nurse Manager.Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements and current nursing and medical practice.Develops management and consultant skills consistent with position responsibilities.Participates in and contributes to department/division/unit committees, meetings and/or projects in keeping with organizational/unit(s) strategic goals.Is self-directed in using timeSeeks out and is receptive to feedback from co-workers at all levels for the purpose of growth in the roleIncorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient/customer relationsPercent of Time: 100%Schedule: 40 hours per week, Day Shifts, Monday-FridayLocation: Stead Family Children's Hospital (SFCH)Rotations: Weekend and holidays per unit and division guidelinesPay PlanBenefits Highlights:Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, IowaFringe benefit package including paid vacation; sick leave; health, dental, life and disability insurance options; and generous employer contributions into retirement plansFor more information about Why Iowa?, click hereEducation RequiredBaccalaureate degree in Nursing is requiredCurrent license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hireExperience RequiredMinimum 2 years of recent (within the last 12 months) experience in pediatric nursingMagnet recognized certification in relevant pediatric nursing specialty (i.e. CPN) is required by six months of hireExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs)Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills, decision making, critical thinking skills, time management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail and thoroughnessCollaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departmentsDemonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient educationDesirable Qualifications:Current experience managing/leading transitions in careKnowledge of UI and UI Health Care policies, procedures and regulationsExperience working in large academic medical centerExperience working in union environment
