Battery Energy Storage (BESS) Project Design Engineer

Job Description Job Description Power the Future Join us to accelerate grid-scale storage deployment. From Juno Beach, FL—or remotely—you’ll lead the planning, design, and realization of complex energy storage projects, traveling about 25% to unlock critical on-site outcomes. The Impact You’ll Make Envision a new utility-scale BESS project: you define scope, orchestrate engineering oversight, and unify stakeholders to deliver a safe, efficient, and reliable asset. Your blend of deep technical skill and pragmatic project leadership keeps the work on track and future-ready. Your Responsibilities Engineer major BESS components and steward designs through the development cycle. Audit drawings for inconsistencies; institute corrective actions and elevate design rigor. Identify flaws in engineering analyses; implement durable fixes and share lessons learned. Prepare technical scopes of work that form the backbone of clear, executable contracts. Support projects end-to-end in concert with project managers. Provide technical direction and influence across diverse project teams. Maintain visibility into progress and technical issues; anticipate and mitigate risks. Work with suppliers to integrate primary equipment cleanly into the architecture. Partner across disciplines to enhance systems integration and controls. Interpret and enforce specifications for major equipment purchases; propose solutions where gaps exist. Navigate permitting requirements, address legal challenges, and recommend site design improvements. Take on additional responsibilities as needed. Travel approximately 25% for project-specific responsibilities. What You Bring 15+ years in Solar/PV engineering and/or construction. Expert-level grounding in one or more: power electronics, battery storage system design, substation design, generation tie design. Familiarity with energy storage technologies: battery chemistries, PCS, DC/DC converters. Knowledge of lithium-ion storage safety and codes: UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections. Familiarity with IEC 61215, 61646, 61730.
