EHS Specialist

Full-time · $70,000 – $90,000 per year, depending on experience

Spokane Industries is a ferrous steel foundry in Spokane Valley, WA. We're hiring an EHS Specialist to run day-to-day safety, health and environmental compliance across our two foundries.

You'll report to VP of Operations, and have the support of a small safety team. The role offers room to grow as the program grows.

• Run the daily safety program on the floor: inspections, toolbox talks, new-hire orientation and PPE.
• Schedule and document recurring inspections, including cranes and rigging, fall protection, eyewash, fire extinguishers, boilers and pressure vessels.
• Coordinate the silica, respirator and hearing conservation programs: fit tests, medical evaluations, annual hearing tests and air-monitoring visits.
• Keep the OSHA 300 log, investigate injuries and near misses, and support workers' comp claims and return-to-work.
• Organize monthly safety committee meetings and keep the minutes.
• Help prepare for L&I, fire department and environmental inspections, and gather the records they request.
• Prepare annual environmental reports (Tier II, Form R, dangerous waste, Clean Air registration) with management review.
• Lead spill and hazardous-material response with the safety team, and schedule HAZWOPER and emergency-response training and refreshers so everyone's certifications stay current.

• 2+ years of safety or EHS experience in manufacturing, construction or another industrial setting.
• Working knowledge of Washington DOSH or OSHA general industry rules.
• OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 within 6 months of hire.
• HAZWOPER 40-hour certification. If you don't have it, you must complete it within 6 months of hire. Keep it current with the 8-hour annual refresher (WAC 296-843).
• First aid/CPR certification, or the ability to earn it within 30 days.
• Organized recordkeeper who is comfortable with Excel and Microsoft 365.
• Comfortable on the production floor and able to talk plainly with crews, supervisors and union stewards.

A degree or certificate in occupational safety or environmental science; an ASP or CHST credential; foundry or metals experience; and experience with workers' comp claims or air monitoring.

Most of the job is on an active foundry floor, with heat, noise, dust, overhead cranes and forklift traffic. You must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE, climb stairs and ladders, and lift 50 lb. The role is a day shift with early starts.

$70,000 – $90,000 per year, depending on experience and credentials, with room to grow.
