State Licensed Medical Coder II

To support accurate medical billing processes, the full-time State Licensed Medical Coder II will review, abstract, and assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for professional services in a remote environment, ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing reimbursement. Key responsibilities Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and HCPCS/CPT codes for chronic conditions and procedures Analyze coding information to ensure optimal reimbursement and compliance with coding regulations Provide guidance to healthcare staff on current coding practices and regulatory changes Required qualifications High school diploma or GED; higher-level degree may be accepted Certification from AHIMA or AAPC is required At least 12 months of experience in hospital coding Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding Successful completion of the UNC HCS Hospital Outpatient Coder Proficiency Test
