Senior Equipment OperatorLee County is seeking a skilled, experienced, and safety-focused Senior Equipment Operator to join our Department of Transportation Maintenance team.In this role, you will support roadway and drainage maintenance across the county by operating heavy equipment, performing complex construction and repair tasks, and helping ensure safe, reliable, and well-maintained transportation corridors.This position is ideal for someone who excels in hands-on outdoor work, takes pride in operating equipment with precision, and wants to contribute to meaningful public-service work that benefits the community every day.Duties and ResponsibilitiesWhat You Will DoSupport roadway and drainage maintenance activities across the countySet up safe work zones and follow all safety protocolsOperate a broad range of heavy equipment with a high level of skill and accuracy, including loaders, rollers, dump trucks, backhoes, skid steers, graders, pavers, mini excavators, and a GradallPerform inspections and basic maintenance on assigned equipment, identify equipment needs, and complete minor repairsLay pipe, build basins, complete asphalt work, repair leaks, place sod, and perform cement workUse lasers for alignment to support precise construction and maintenance tasksHaul, position, and transport heavy equipment as neededMaintain road right-of-ways to ensure clean and safe travel corridorsWork independently or with a crew to complete daily assignmentsIn the absence of the Crew Supervisor, assist with documenting daily activitiesPerform other related duties as assignedEducation, Experience, LicensingWhat We're Looking ForHigh School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceThree years of heavy equipment operation or related experienceAbility to work in a safety-sensitive position and comply with DOT Drug & Alcohol testing requirementsLicensing RequirementsValid Class A CDL permit with the ability to get a Class A license within 6 monthsSafety-Sensitive PositionThis is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing under DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).Supplemental InformationWork Schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM This position follows a mandatory four-day, ten-hour work schedule and may receive up to ten hours of holiday pay at the regular rate for each observed holiday.About the DepartmentThe Lee County Department of Transportation (DOT) plans, builds, and maintains the county's roadway network.
