Overview CTL Engineering / CTL Infrastructure has openings for multiple Equipment Operator 4 positions on infrastructure projects. The roles include Core Driller, Equipment Operator, and Mechanic. CTL Infrastructure is a division of CTL Engineering ( a full‑service consulting engineering firm with 15 locations across Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. With a 99‑year history, the firm offers civil/site design, environmental services, construction administration, accident reconstruction, roofing, A/V system design, transportation design, and specialized testing services to the construction industry. Highlights Operates at advanced level on highways, bridges, and related structures; includes under‑bridge inspection trucks, tractor‑trailer low drag transport, core drilling, and crew chief duties. Positions are available in Core Driller, Equipment Operator, or Mechanic roles. Potential exposure to hazardous conditions and inclement weather. Responsibilities Core Driller Assemble and position drill rig and related equipment on site. Operate the drill rig and identify rock/soil types in core samples. Label core boxes with depth and location. Repair drill rig and related equipment. Other duties as assigned. Equipment Operator Perform pre‑operational checks of equipment. Operate a tractor‑trailer low drag to transport equipment. Control levers and other articulating boom mechanisms. Operate an under‑bridge inspection truck. Lead or train lower‑level transportation workers. Other duties as assigned. Mechanic Lead lower‑level mechanics in the Equipment Division or District HQ. Conduct road testing or final review of equipment repairs. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Maintain a valid driver’s license if travel required. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Advanced methods, materials, and equipment for gasoline/diesel equipment maintenance. Operation of trucks for under‑bridge services. Knowledge of the Division of Highways Equipment Management System and safety procedures. Familiarity with welding equipment, gases, and specifications (e.g., AWS). Basic mathematics and metallurgy understanding. Skilled manipulation of articulating boom controls and repair tools. Diagnostic and repair procedures for mechanical and electrical systems. Training of lower‑level mechanics. Reading and interpreting plans, cutting and fitting metal components. Fuel gauge regulation, climbing high steel structures, welding equipment operation. Understanding oral and written instructions, maintaining effective working relationships. Maintenance of simple records (timecards, work orders). Required Experience Core Driller Valid class A or B commercial driver’s license. Five years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in core drilling, oil and gas drilling, or drilling equipment operation. No substitutions. Equipment Operator Valid class A or B commercial driver’s license. Five years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment in a commercial, industrial, or warehouse setting, or operating construction or maintenance equipment on roadways, or core drilling in a mining environment. No substitutions. Mechanic Commercial driver’s license (CDL) required within six months of employment. Five years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as an automotive mechanic for gasoline or diesel vehicles/equipment. Special requirements for IN W 4 Mechanic: graduate from an approved auto/diesel college or hold a current passing certificate in any three ASE specialties. No substitutions. Physical Demands Frequent climbing of tall ladders, bridges, and structures. Manual operation of heavy machinery requiring strenuous activity. Potential operation of machinery in extreme conditions. Possibly lifting up to 75 pounds or more. Work Environment High‑risk environment with exposure to dangerous situations and extreme weather. Work near fast‑moving traffic, hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment, and electrical equipment. Strict adherence to safety regulations and use of proper protective gear.
