Help Support the People Behind Our MissionThe Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to support key employee programs and processes that contribute to a positive employee experience and a compliant, well-organized workplace.
Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys the operational side of Human Resources and wants hands-on experience coordinating onboarding, benefits administration, compliance training, and employee records management. As a member of the Human Resources team, you will play an important role in supporting employees throughout their employment journey while helping ensure organizational compliance and consistency.

Your RoleAs the Human Resources Coordinator, you will serve as a key resource in supporting employee onboarding, compliance initiatives, benefits administration, and personnel records management. You will work closely with employees, supervisors, and within the HR team to ensure processes are completed accurately, professionally, and in accordance with organizational policies and employment regulations.
This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, discretion when handling confidential information, and a commitment to providing outstanding internal customer service.
What You'll DoYou will coordinate all aspects of the employee onboarding process, including preparing onboarding materials, managing pre-employment documentation, coordinating orientation activities, and ensuring new hires successfully complete required employment and compliance requirements.
You will administer and track organizational compliance training programs, monitor completion rates, maintain training records, generate reports, and work with employees and leaders to ensure required training is completed within established deadlines. You will support annual compliance initiatives and assist with the implementation of new training programs and resources.
You will provide support for employee benefits programs by assisting with benefit enrollments, qualifying life event changes, open enrollment activities, employee questions, and coordination with benefit vendors. You will help maintain accurate records and ensure employees receive timely information regarding available benefits and programs.
You will maintain employee personnel files and electronic records, ensuring documentation is complete, organized, and compliant with applicable record retention requirements. You will assist with audits, reporting, compliance reviews, and HR record management activities.
Additionally, you will support HR communications, prepare reports, respond to employee inquiries, assist with special projects, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts designed to enhance HR processes and the overall employee experience.
What We're Looking ForAn associate's or bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or a closely related Human Resources field is strongly preferred.
Previous Human Resources experience, internships, or professional experience supporting onboarding, benefits administration, HR compliance, employee records management, or related HR functions is required.
Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of Human Resources principles, employment regulations, confidentiality requirements, and HR best practices.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Strong communication, customer service, problem-solving, and time management skills are essential.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, learning management systems, ADP, or similar HR technology platforms is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsThis position primarily works in an office environment and requires extended periods of sitting, computer work, and occasional standing, walking, lifting, and carrying of files or materials. Employees may occasionally be exposed to animals, animal dander, odors, moderate noise levels, and other conditions common to an animal welfare organization.
Employment in this position is at-will , meaning that either the employee or the ARL may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any lawful reason.
