Senior Planner/Buyer

Overview The Senior Planner/Buyer at Orchid Orthopedic Solutions is responsible for developing and executing complex production schedules that optimize resource utilization, ensure on-time delivery to customers, minimize inventory holding costs, purchase and negotiate production resources, evaluate vendor quotes, and implement cost‑saving initiatives. The role proactively identifies and mitigates production bottlenecks, leads cross‑functional collaboration to resolve supply‑chain challenges, and drives continuous improvement throughout the supply‑chain. Responsibilities Develop and maintain complex production schedules aligned with sales forecasts, capacity constraints, and material availability to achieve high on‑time delivery performance and inventory optimization. Lead cross‑functional teams (production, purchasing, engineering, sales, IT) to identify and resolve scheduling issues and minimize production disruptions. Analyze production data and key performance indicators to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities, and develop metrics to track schedule adherence. Develop and implement inventory control strategies, including safety stock management, to ensure sufficient material availability while improving working capital. Mentor and coach junior planners, providing training on scheduling software and best practices. Oversee the implementation and optimization of planning and scheduling tools (ERP, APS), ensuring data accuracy and system effectiveness. Negotiate with suppliers to secure timely delivery of critical materials, manage supplier relationships, and resolve supply‑chain disruptions. Communicate proactively with key customers about order status and scheduling concerns. Develop and execute contingency plans to mitigate impacts from unexpected events such as equipment downtime, material shortages, or natural disasters. Collaborate with demand and supply planning functions to align processes and optimize overall supply‑chain performance. Support new product introductions by creating initial production schedules and ensuring smooth transition to regular production. Research products, generate purchase orders, and select vendors for the approved supplier list. Obtain materials at the best cost while maintaining quality, reliability, and urgency. Prepare and send RFQs, solicit bids, review requisitions, and maintain approved supplier documentation. Generate monthly supply‑chain reports such as raw‑material savings, supplier scorecards, and open‑PO status. Participate in inventory reconciliation, cycle counting, and annual physical inventories. Identify and implement cost‑improvement projects and purchase‑price‑variance opportunities to meet annual variance goals. Manage large and complex purchases and supplier relationships with high business impact. Qualifications Bachelor's degree (preferred); Master’s degree (preferred). 5+ years of experience in supply chain, purchasing, or sourcing (required). Experience using ERP software (required). Cross‑functional experience (preferred). 1+ year of experience in tactical purchasing or buying (preferred). Experience in e‑sourcing (required). Manufacturing experience (required). Production and Inventory Management Certification (CPIM) – Delaware Technical Community College (preferred). Certified Integrated Resource Management (CIRM) – APICS (preferred). Knowledge of manufacturing industry and regulatory environment. Excellent customer communication, time management, interpersonal skills, decision making, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities. Strong computer knowledge, lean manufacturing expertise, flexibility, adaptability, data entry, inventory management, strategic planning, and negotiation skills.
