Physical Therapist

Work Hours Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. M-F 8-4:30. Job Summary Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, muscle, nerve, joint, and bone diseases to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability. Reviews physician’s referral and patient’s condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required. Tests and measures patient’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs. Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data. Administers manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and use of assistive devices. Administers physical agent treatments and evaluates effects of treatment at various stages, adjusting treatments for maximum benefit. Records treatment response and progress in patient chart or digital system. Instructs patient and family in continuation of treatment at home. Orients and directs work activities of assistants, aides, and students. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science or Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution. Active or temporary Physical Therapist license from the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy. Temporary license holders must obtain active license within 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association. Working knowledge of computer software such as word processing and spreadsheets. Preferred Qualifications Trigger point dry needling certification preferred. Physical Demands Must possess good physical health. Requires standing, sitting, walking for long periods and lifting at least 50 pounds. Physical Effort: Constant (67%-100%) – talking, hearing, seeing; Occasionally (1%-33%) – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling/feeling.
