What You'll Do:
The Communications and Development Specialist supports Blue Ridge Health's mission by developing, coordinating, and executing communication, marketing, and development initiatives that strengthen organizational visibility, engage internal and external audiences, support fundraising goals, and advance strategic priorities.
Responsibilities include:
- Manages communication, marketing, and development projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with the Director.
- Serves as a liaison between communications and development to ensure consistent messaging, coordinated planning, and effective execution while identifying needs and recommending solutions.
- Maintains project workflows, calendars, and deadlines, provides status updates and secures approvals, and coordinates with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
- Creates, updates, and maintains content for the Blue Ridge Health website, employee intranet, and other digital platforms.
- Develops, schedules, and monitors social media content, recommending opportunities to increase audience growth, engagement, and awareness.
- Creates and manages email campaigns to current and potential donors, including content development, segmentation, distribution, and performance tracking.
- Supports digital communication strategies and maintains digital assets, content libraries, and communication resources.
- Drafts press releases, media advisories, public statements, talking points, and other external communications.
- Assists with media inquiries and coordinates responses with the Director of Communications and Development.
- Builds and maintains relationships with media representatives and community stakeholders while identifying opportunities to promote organizational initiatives and impact.
- Supports communication planning for announcements, campaigns, and outreach efforts and may serve as a spokesperson or presenter as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Public Health, or related field required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, development, or a related field required.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and developing communication strategies, campaigns, and high-quality written content.
- Experience supporting fundraising, donor relations, and development communications; healthcare, nonprofit, agency, or community-based experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable design software required.
- Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal, or similar platforms preferred.
- Experience with social media management tools and email marketing platforms such as Brevo, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, HubSpot, or similar systems required or preferred.
- Experience with print production, vendor coordination, photography, videography, basic video editing, and Spanish language skills preferred.
