Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to design, develop, and test advanced hardware components and systems that support mission-critical applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software and electrical engineers as well as product stakeholders, to bring innovative products from concept through manufacturing. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented problem solver with a strong experience in hardware design, PCB development, testing, and troubleshooting, who enjoys seeing products through their full lifecycle.
Responsibilities

• Design and develop hardware components, including PCBs, circuits, and complete systems, in alignment with project requirements and specifications.
• Create detailed hardware schematics and layouts that support high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal designs.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, electrical engineers, and other team members to ensure seamless integration of hardware with software and other system components.
• Develop and build hardware prototypes to validate design concepts and support early-stage evaluation.
• Plan and execute thorough testing of hardware prototypes and production units to verify performance, reliability, and compliance with requirements.
• Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot hardware-related issues, implementing robust solutions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Use simulation tools to model and validate circuit and system behavior prior to hardware build.
• Maintain detailed documentation of hardware designs, including schematics, PCB layouts, design decisions, and revisions.
• Document testing procedures, test plans, and results to support verification, validation, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with documentation teams to develop user manuals, technical guides, and other product documentation for hardware components.
• Work with configuration management teams to ensure all hardware designs and revisions are properly released and controlled.
• Participate actively in design reviews, providing technical input and recommendations to improve overall product quality and manufacturability.
• Ensure hardware designs comply with applicable industry standards, including military and safety standards, as well as other relevant guidelines.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in hardware and electrical engineering, and apply this knowledge to enhance products and processes.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to colleagues, sharing expertise in areas such as PCB design, high-speed digital design, and signal processing.
• Support manufacturing by addressing design-for-manufacturability considerations and assisting with transition from prototype to production.

Essential Skills

• At least 7 years of experience in hardware design, development, and testing.
• Proven experience in PCB design, including schematic capture and layout for complex boards.
• Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, including high-speed digital design.
• Proficiency with hardware design and simulation tools such as Altium, Cadence, and SPICE or equivalent platforms.
• Hands-on experience with hardware troubleshooting, validation, and performance optimization.
• Solid understanding of digital communication interfaces such as I2C and SPI.
• Experience working with high-speed digital systems and signal integrity considerations.
• Familiarity with digital signal processing concepts and practical signal processing implementations.
• Ability to interpret and apply industry and military standards to hardware designs.
• Strong documentation skills for capturing designs, test procedures, and test results.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance as required for working with sensitive equipment and installations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience designing with microprocessors, microcontrollers, and embedded systems.
• Experience with FPGAs, including platforms such as Xilinx, and related development flows.
• Experiene in digital signal processing (DSP) and signal processing applications.
• Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for modeling, analysis, and simulation.
• Leadership or mentorship experience within engineering teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.
• Experience designing hardware that supports military or mission-critical installations.
• Familiarity with configuration management processes and tools.
• Interest in following and applying emerging technologies and best practices in hardware engineering.

Work Environment
This position is currently 100% onsite due to the nature of the work and the sensitivity of the equipment and systems involved. The primary work area is a cubicle-based office environment complemented by a small test lab where hardware prototypes and systems are built, evaluated, and tested using modern tools and equipment. Engineers typically use CAD and simulation tools such as Altium, Cadence, SPICE, MATLAB, and Simulink, along with standard lab instruments for hardware validation and troubleshooting. The organization follows a 9/80 work schedule, providing every other Friday off, which supports work-life balance while maintaining project momentum. The team culture is collaborative and supportive, with some colleagues enjoying social activities such as group outings and happy hours, while others prioritize family-focused time outside of work; both lifestyles are welcomed and respected. This is a Permanent position based out of Greenville, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $80.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
