This diverse, engineering-focused team defines, designs, and builds Arm microprocessor IP.Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to help develop, operate, and evolve the engineering infrastructure used to design and verify Arm’s high-performance CPUs.This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of software engineering, hardware verification, and high-performance computing (HPC). You will work closely with CPU design and verification engineers to improve the infrastructure, tools, and workflows that enable large-scale hardware development.ResponsibilitiesYou will contribute to the development and operation of infrastructure supporting CPU design and verification, including:Design, develop, and test - Applying sound software engineering practices, including code review, automated testing, documentation, version control, and maintainable software architectureSoftware used to automate CPU development and verification workflows through direct interactions with CPU design and verification engineersTools and automation for submitting, managing, monitoring, and analyzing distributed compute workloadsObservability of engineering infrastructure through metrics, logging, dashboards, alerting, and automated diagnosticsImprove CI and regression infrastructure used by hardware design and verification teamsIntegrations between source control, CI systems, verification tools, workload schedulers, and engineering servicesDebug, investigate, and diagnoseIdentify bottlenecks and opportunities to improve compute utilization, verification throughput, and turnaround timeSolve complex problems that cross boundaries between software, hardware verification tools, operating systems, compute infrastructure, and storageSupporting large-scale verification workloads running across HPC compute farmsContribute to technical direction and engineering improvements within the wider CPU development environment.Required Skills and QualificationsYou will need:Robust software engineering backgroundRecord of delivering production quality software or engineering infrastructureStrong understanding of software engineering principles: API design, testing, debugging, source control, code review, and maintainabilityHigh-performance or large-scale compute environmentsManagement and monitoring of distributed workloadsDiagnosis of system and application issues using logs, metrics, profiling, tracing, or other observability techniquesHardware design and verification flowsUnderstanding of concepts such as simulation, regression testing, test execution, results consolidation, and failure analysisExpertise in at least one of these languages: Python, Ruby. Shell scripting experience is strongly preferred.Experience with Linux systemsSolid understanding of CI/CD or other automated build, test, and regression systemsProven track record of strong problem solving skills across multiple components within a complex engineering environmentStrong communication and collaboration skills to bridge diverse development communities: software engineers, hardware designers, verification engineers, infrastructure teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:CPU, SoC, ASIC, or other semiconductor design and verification environmentsKnowledge of SystemVerilogHardware simulation, emulation, formal verification, regression management toolsAnalysis of large volumes of verification and regression dataProduct release and maintenancePackaging and release of hardware productsAutomated packaging and testing flow developmentInternal and external standards' compliance, e.g. IP-XACTHigh performance compute workload management: IBM Spectrum LSF, Slurm, or similar systemsJenkins or other continuous integration orchestration systemsLinux system programming, process management, resource accounting, and performance analysisContainerized development and execution environmentsNetworked storageWhat Success Looks LikeIn this role, you will become a trusted engineering contributor to the CPU development environment. You will understand both the software infrastructure and the verification workflows it supports, allowing you to identify problems that are difficult to see from either perspective alone.Your work will help engineers run verification more efficiently, diagnose failures more quickly, make better use of compute resources, and spend less time dealing with infrastructure.
