Wiring Systems Engineer, Flight Research

Company Overview Joby Flight Research designs, develops, and flight-tests novel aircraft using a software-first autonomy approach. We build and deploy autonomy, perception, planning, and radar systems across conventional, electric, and hydrogen-electric aircraft in both CTOL and VTOL configurations. Overview Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate engineer to join our team to develop electrical wiring systems on new aviation projects. In a rapid prototyping environment, the engineer will be responsible for designing the architecture, components, assemblies, and installations; building test articles, manufacturing assemblies, and installing them; and running tests and iterating. Working with a relatively small cross-functional team on a new development project, the engineer will have the opportunity to learn about other functional disciplines, systems, and new technologies with which the electrical system interfaces. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow firsthand from concept to creation and implementation. Responsibilities Generate architecture and power distribution diagrams and analyze tradeoffsSelect electrical components from COTS catalogues and custom designsPerform voltage and ampacity analysisDesign electrical system installations in CAD and 2D drawingsManufacture and install electrical designs into aircraftIterate quickly following the design, build, test strategyControl designs via interface and configuration documents Required B.S. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, other relevant discipline and 3+ years of working experience in a relevant industry OR in lieu of a degree, 5+ years of working experience in a relevant industryExcellent problem solving and teamwork skills, working with people cross-functionallyExperience with hands-on design, prototyping, and testing Desired 8+ years of working experience in relevant industryProficiency with Catia, specifically using Electrical 3D Design, Electrical 3D Part Design, Electrical Manufacturing Preparation, Assembly Design, Part Design, and Generative Shape DesignFamiliarity with EWIS aerospace standards, such as SAE AS50881, AC 43.13 Ch.11, ASTM F2639, etc.Understanding of ERP/MRP/PLM solutions Additional Information Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
