Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant

The Orthopedic Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assists in providing seamless care to orthopedic surgical and nonsurgical patients by acting as a liaison between supervising physicians and other medical providers such as hospitalists and consultants as well as communicating and coordinating care with OR scheduling, patient support person and/or family members.

General Responsibilities:

• Completes ordered orthopedic consultations, ER and nursing unit, as requested for supervising physicians
• Orders appropriate testing/imaging for patient evaluation and pre-operative testing for surgical patients
• Contacts physician when consultation is complete
• Schedules operative cases after consulting with supervising physician
• Performs daily rounds on patients and orders appropriate testing including radiographs, labs, and urgent studies
• Communicates updates with attending MD/APP
• Enters post operative orders
• Performs appropriate bedside procedures such as aspirations, injections, and application of splints, braces, and casts, bedside incisions and drainage, as well as closed reductions
• Assists in surgical procedures as needed
• Always demonstrates Service Excellence standards
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Masters Degree required. Doctoral degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
• 5-7 years specialized medical training
• Minimum of 3 years of orthopedic assistance preferred
• Must be board certified
• Must hold or be able to obtain an active Florida Medical Licensure prior to start
• Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS at start date
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS at start date
• Basic computer skills
• Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with many different surgeons who follow different protocols
• Must be self-directed, organized and possess effective communication skills when communicating with physicians and hospital staff
