About the Position

Shouldice Industrial Manufacturers and Contractors, Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Pipefitting Project Manager to oversee industrial piping projects from estimating and preconstruction through project completion and closeout.

 

This position requires someone who can see the big picture while still paying attention to the details that keep a project profitable and on schedule. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with customers, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and internal departments and understands that successful project management means balancing safety, quality, schedule, manpower, and cost.

 

The Pipefitting Project Manager will be responsible for managing multiple projects while serving as a primary point of contact between the customer, field supervision, and the Shouldice team.

 

This is not a position where you simply hand a project off to the field and wait for the paperwork to come back. Our Project Managers are expected to remain actively involved from start to finish.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Manage industrial piping projects from estimating and preconstruction through final completion and closeout.
• Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, P&IDs, and other project documents.
• Prepare estimates, proposals, project budgets, schedules, manpower requirements, procurement plans, and overall project execution strategies.
• Monitor project costs, labor productivity, material costs, committed costs, billings, and overall job profitability.
• Work closely with field supervisors and foremen to coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and project priorities.
• Conduct project turnover meetings and ensure field personnel have the information necessary to successfully execute the work.
• Manage project schedules and coordinate work with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and other trades.
• Prepare, review, and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and other project documentation.
• Identify changes in project scope and ensure additional work is properly documented, priced, submitted, and approved.
• Procure piping materials, equipment, specialty items, and subcontracted services while monitoring lead times and delivery schedules.
• Review vendor and subcontractor proposals for scope, pricing, and compliance with project requirements.
• Review job tickets, purchase orders, invoices, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Attend jobsite and project progress meetings with customers, contractors, field personnel, and internal staff.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and communication throughout the life of each project.
• Review project performance regularly and take corrective action when cost, schedule, productivity, or manpower concerns arise.
• Assist with project billing, cost projections, forecasting, and work-in-progress reporting.
• Work closely with accounting and administrative staff regarding invoicing, job setup, certified payroll requirements, contract documents, and project closeout.
• Support estimating and preconstruction activities as needed, including scope review, takeoffs, vendor pricing, labor estimates, and project planning.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, union representatives, and industry partners.
• Help identify and pursue additional work opportunities with both existing and potential customers.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.

 

Qualifications

Preferred Experience

• Previous project management experience in industrial piping, process piping, or mechanical construction.
• Strong understanding of pipefitting, industrial piping systems, materials, installation methods, and construction sequencing.
• Experience with industrial piping systems including process piping, utility piping, steam, condensate, compressed air, water, hydronic systems, and related mechanical systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting piping drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and construction documents.
• Knowledge of project estimating, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, change-order management, and cost control.
• Experience managing projects in manufacturing, industrial, municipal, institutional, or other active facility environments is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with union construction trades is strongly preferred.

• Comfortable working independently while remaining part of a collaborative management team.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable learning construction management, estimating, scheduling, and accounting software.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
• Ability to pass a background check.

That means communicating before something becomes a problem, supporting the field instead of managing from behind a desk, protecting the company's interests while maintaining strong customer relationships, and knowing where a project stands financially and operationally at all times.

 

The right person will be equally comfortable discussing project costs in the office, reviewing drawings with an engineer, coordinating materials with a vendor, or walking a jobsite with the field team.

 

We aren't looking for someone who simply knows how to move paperwork from one desk to another. We want someone who notices when something doesn't look right, asks questions, follows through, and helps solve problems instead of passing them along.
