Execution of the prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic treatment regiments, administering, delegating, and evaluating nursing activities.Location: Methodist Fremont Health HospitalAddress: 450 E 23rd St. - Fremont, NEWork Schedule: This is a casual/PRN position.Scheduling: 1. A schedule of non-covered shifts is available in the Staffing Office for the current and upcoming scheduling period. 2. Employees are responsible for scheduling/working the required number of hours/shifts to maintain their status and meet requirements. 3. Employees are required to schedule/work 24 hours each scheduling period per needs of acute nursing as arranged with the Staffing Coordinator. This includes 12 hour required weekend shifts. 4. Employees are required to schedule/work 12-hour weekends per scheduling period per needs of acute nursing. Weekend hours for per diem requirements will include all hours from 7 PM Friday until 7 AM Monday (this is for per diem requirements only).ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsProvides an accurate and thorough assessment of the patient/family to identify human responses to actual or potential health conditions.Performs patient care assessments and reassessments based on patient condition and established policy/procedure.Demonstrates the ability to effectively utilize the nursing process when providing assessment for all individuals.Demonstrates the ability to assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized.Documents all assessment and reassessments in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.Formulation of a nursing diagnosis to identify and plan for the needs of an individual, family, or group.Utilizes history and assessment information to identify patient problems and set goals.Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs.Demonstrates the ability to revise a plan of care as indicated by patient's response to treatment.Utilizes assessment data and formulates a plan for discharge needs.Implementation of a nursing treatment regimen to provide for the selection, performance and management of proper nursing practices.Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standards of care and patient's age.Performs direct patient care utilizing professional nursing skills and judgment according to physicians and other licensed practitioner's orders.Teaches health care practices, initiates and participates in patient and family education programs.Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their condition.Documentation of nursing care meets current standards and policies.Evaluation of the plan of care an treatment for all patients under his/her care to promote resolution of patient problems and positive patient outcomes.Evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness and makes adjustments as needed to meet patient goals.Evaluates effectiveness of learning and discharge teaching needs.Coordinates and supervises patient care to provide for the management of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.Communicates pertinent information regarding patient care appropriately and clearly.Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and patient rounds.Utilizes effective clinical delegation skills, demonstrating accountability for the scope of practice of the individual being delegated to and evaluation of the outcome of delegation.Consults with co-workers and other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs and discharge plan.Safety initiative - Complies with Methodist Fremont Health (MFH) safety policies and procedures and regulatory requirements e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), etc.Performs job duties in a manner consistent with organization and departmental safety policies and procedures.Completes departmental safety requirements, e.g., blitz, departmental in-services, etc., on an annual basis.Job DescriptionEducationGraduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.ExperienceTwo to five years previous inpatient nursing experience preferred.License/CertificationsRequired:Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).Preferred:Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C.EFM) Certificate of Added Qualification from NCC within 1 year of eligibility.Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).Skills/Knowledge/AbilitiesKnowledge of computer resources.Proficiency in nursing practice.Exceptional ability to be self-directed.Outstanding ability to communicate with wide variety of disciplines.Physical RequirementsPhysicalWeight DemandsMedium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force.Physical ActivityOccasionally Performed (1%-33%):ClimbingCrawlingKneelingSittingFrequently Performed (34%-66%):BalancingCarryingCrouchingDistinguish colorsKeyboarding/typingLiftingPulling/PushingRepetitive MotionsStooping/bendingTwistingConstantly Performed (67%-100%):Fingering/TouchingGraspingHearingReachingSeeing/VisualSpeaking/talkingStandingWalkingEnvironmentalLocated in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise.
