Weekly Scheduled Hours 40 FLSA Status Exempt from FLSA Earliest Start Date Immediately Position Duration Expected to Continue Purpose The Associate Director of Faculty Academic Affairs is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating processes related to APT and faculty development programming. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Operations Serve as strategic advisor to the Associate Dean, providing expertise in faculty affairs and university policies and procedures. Develop and execute strategies that strengthen OFAA support for faculty appointments, promotion and tenure, comprehensive and mid-probationary reviews, faculty development, evaluations, awards, engagement, and endowed titles. Lead strategic initiatives from concept through implementation, identifying opportunities to streamline operations and improve the faculty and departmental experience. Manage day-to-day OFAA operations, track strategic goals and metrics, and drive continuous process improvement as the office evolves. APT Leadership Lead departments, chairs, faculty affairs leaders, and administrators through Dell Med appointment, promotion and tenure processes, including annual tenure-track reviews and triannual professional-track promotion reviews. Partner with Academic Personnel Services and departmental administrators to ensure efficient operations and dossier compliance with Dell Med and university requirements. Provide guidance to the APT Committee and oversee its administrative support, delegating responsibilities and developing staff capability. Develop resources, training, and programmatic support that make APT requirements and processes accessible to faculty, leaders, and administrators. Policy Development & Compliance Evaluate university, UT System, state, and national higher-education policies and advise the Associate Dean on implications for faculty appointments and promotion. Research, develop, revise, document, and communicate faculty affairs policies in collaboration with departments, university offices, and the Provost’s Office. Educate stakeholders on policy changes and support operational compliance as requirements evolve. Collaboration & Change Management Partner with the Provost’s Office, Dell Med HR, Development, IT, Research, academic departments, and other stakeholders to execute OFAA priorities. Lead cross-functional and school-wide change efforts aligned with OFAA strategic goals. Coordinate evolving practices, policies, and processes across Dell Med and university partners, communicating changes effectively to affected stakeholders. Systems & Process Improvement Represent Dell Med/OFAA in partnership with UT Faculty Affairs and Dell Med IT on planning and implementation of the Watermark system. Develop and track implementation plans, timelines, responsibilities, and milestones, particularly for APT-related workflows. Identify and implement opportunities to streamline faculty affairs processes, reduce administrative burden, improve efficiency, and strengthen accountability. Develop, implement, and maintain processes and procedures supporting appointments, promotion and tenure, evaluations, awards, endowments, and related faculty affairs activities. Team Leadership & Communications Lead the growth of OFAA as its responsibilities and operational complexity expand, including hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and developing staff. Build team capability through collaborative problem-solving, policy education, and increased ownership of faculty affairs processes. Oversee OFAA communications in partnership with the communications team and ensure clear, consistent information for faculty, administrators, and institutional leaders. Budget & Administrative Oversight Exercise delegated signature authority for assigned programs and oversee OFAA’s annual budget, accounting coordination, and day-to-day financial management. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in faculty affairs or related experience. 5+ years of faculty affairs experience within an academic medical center, including managing promotion and tenure processes at scale in a high-volume environment. 5+ years of experience providing strategic support at the Dean level. 5+ years of experience managing faculty affairs staff. In-depth knowledge of Dell Medical School-specific faculty policies and guidelines. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree. Experience with The University of Texas System, including familiarity with its policies and procedures. Working knowledge of Faculty Success/Watermark software for managing faculty review processes. Salary Range $106,238 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Retirement Plan Eligibility The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
