HVAC Technician

Position Summary The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the daily operation and maintenance of all HVAC and refrigeration equipment across assigned campus areas, including repair, replacement, installation, and maintenance of units ranging from 1,875‑ton centrifugal chillers to window air conditioning units. The role includes scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance, performing system calibrations, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. It typically involves managing maintenance for chilled water, air handling, controls, pumps, compressors, and related equipment. Key Responsibilities 25% Maintenance and operation of chillers and related equipment. 25% Preventive and corrective maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems. 10% Calibration, operation, and maintenance of controls. 10% Pumps, air handlers, and air compressors. 10% Refrigeration system maintenance and repair. 10% Safety compliance and hazard mitigation. 5% Filters and lubrication maintenance. 5% Renovation and new construction support. Position requires availability for an emergency call‑back rotation and may be called for emergency response during nights, weekends, and holidays. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certifications. Experience in the trade area related to the assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis. Additional Required Certifications Valid driver’s license. Universal CFC Certification. Preferred Qualifications Five to seven years of directly related experience. Universal CFC Certification. HVAC degree or equivalent certification. Chiller experience preferred. BAS control experience preferred. Alternate Option If no applicants meet the required competencies and training requirements, management may consider other applicants. Salary will be determined based on competencies, equity, budget, and market considerations.
