Activity Coordinator

Make a Difference Where It Counts! At our 22-bed Behavioral Health Hospital, every role plays a vital part in changing lives, strengthening our community, and delivering care that truly matters. POSITION SUMMARY The Activities Coordinator plans, directs, and coordinates medically approved activities within the psychiatric program schedule for patients within the facility. Activities may include leisure skills, social activities, physical exercise, cognitive challenges, and arts and crafts. The Activities Coordinator assesses patients' leisure, social, and recreational status as part of the overall biopsychosocial assessment process. The Activities Coordinator participates as a member of the treatment team by formulating goals and interventions based on the identified needs and conditions of the patients and recommending appropriate recreational activities. The Activities Coordinator provides groups aimed at developing patients' social, leisure, and physical skills. The Activities Coordinator demonstrates the ability to accurately facilitate groups and document patients' responses to interventions. The Activities Coordinator incorporates responses to group interventions into the patients' plans of care. The Activities Coordinator provides support to the clinical department through teamwork and input regarding the patients' overall psychosocial needs. The Activities Coordinator works under the supervision of a licensed and/or certified recreation therapist, or a professional who meets the education, experience, and certification requirements established by state mandate. The supervisor is under the direction of the Clinical Services Director. WORKING CONDITIONS Work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high. The work environment may include chemicals used for cleaning and may involve exposure to dust, mist, and steam generated during housekeeping tasks. This is a smoke-free workplace. The position requires spending approximately 75% or more of the workday inside a building that provides protection from weather conditions but may not provide consistent protection from temperature changes. The employee must provide documentation of a tuberculosis test during new-hire orientation and annually thereafter. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to stand for moderate periods of time, with standing potentially comprising 60-80% of the work shift. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, including at least four hours as needed. A certain amount of walking and standing is necessary to carry out job duties. Lifting and carrying may exceed 10 pounds. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and motions as required. ADDITIONAL WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS The position may require exposure to: Repetitive tasks and motions Hearing alarms and telephone communications Normal speaking voices A hectic work environment with frequent interruptions Stress associated with providing services to psychiatric patients experiencing acute and crisis needs The work environment may present certain risks associated with providing care and services to psychiatric patients with acute and crisis-related needs. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS Reaching: Extending the hands and arms in any direction. Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand or hands. Fingering: Picking, pinching, and otherwise working primarily with the fingers. Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects and materials, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, through receptors in the skin, particularly those of the fingertips. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas through the spoken word. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds through the ear. Seeing: Obtaining impressions through the eyes regarding the shape, size, distance, motion, or other characteristics of objects. Major visual functions include: Visual acuity, both near and far Depth perception Field of vision Accommodation Color vision Exposure Category: Category II - Tasks involve potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. #J-18808-Ljbffr
