Server Position at Hog Island Oyster Co.The Server position at Hog Island Oyster Co. (HIOC) is an integral member of the restaurant team and sets the tone of the restaurant, creating authentic experiences for our guests. For this role, you should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills to ensure our guests have a positive dining experience from the moment they arrive until their departure.You will be responsible for greeting guests, providing accurate wait times, escorting customers to the dining and bar areas, and assisting with side work such as polishing silverware or folding napkins.You will also be responsible for taking orders, serving food and beverages, checking on guest satisfaction, answering questions about the menu and food, processing payments, communicating orders with the kitchen staff, and assisting with customer service and cleaning.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssisting the guests' needsFilling in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.Complete knowledge of the menu and able to make suggestions based on guest preferencesEnsure the timely and accurate serving of orders, offering promotional menus and other additional services.Set up and breakdown of tablesKeeping all tables and eating spaces clean and tidyEnsure that all equipment is being kept clean and in excellent working conditionBe knowledgeable of restaurant, rules and proceduresCommunicate in a timely manner, while being open and respectfulTaking reservations and managing wait timesSeating guests and distributing menusHandling to-go ordersAdhere to all relevant health department rules/regulations and all customer service guidelinesHelping complete any and all side workOther duties as assignedSkills and ExperienceRestaurant Experience a Must – 1 year serving experience a plusExcellent Communication SkillsTime-management and MultitaskingCommunication and Listening SkillsComputer SkillsPatience and ComposureExceptional Service SkillsExcellent Customer ServiceTeam PlayerCustomer-centricAbility to have funFood SafetyPhysical DemandsEmployee is regularly required to talk or hear.Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, squat, bend, stoop, and reach with hands and arms.Able to walk on hard and uneven slippery surfaces.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office/restaurant equipment, products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.The noise level is high, typical of a restaurant environment and workspace is shared with other staff and customers.Entails a fast paced, frequently changing environment in which interruptions are considered normal;Minimal exposure to physical risks such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals;Constant exposure to possible food allergens such as milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy;Moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises; andChemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm may be present in foods or beverages sold or served here.Please Note: This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the Server position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.
