Job Summary

The Custodial Assistant is responsible for helping maintain a clean, orderly, and hygienic environment throughout the school building during the academic year. This flexible, part-time position supports the daily operations of the school by performing routine cleaning and custodial duties, including floor care, vacuuming, trash removal, dusting, and general upkeep. The Custodial Assistant may also assist with seasonal or deep-cleaning projects, room setup, stocking supplies, and other duties as requested by the Head Custodian. The position plays an important role in supporting a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for students, teachers, faculty, staff, and guests.

Job Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and otherwise maintain floors throughout the school building.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets and rugs in classrooms, offices, and other designated areas.
• Empty and properly dispose of trash and recycling throughout the building.
• Dust, wipe, polish, and clean windows, furnishings, fixtures, and other surfaces as needed.
• Clean and maintain assigned areas in accordance with established school cleaning standards and schedules.
• Assist with seasonal, periodic, and deep-cleaning projects as directed by the Head Custodian.
• Assist with room setup, stocking custodial supplies, and other occasional tasks as assigned.
• Identify and promptly report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or facility issues to the Head Custodian.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures, cleaning protocols, and proper use and storage of cleaning products and equipment.
• Maintain a professional, dependable, and respectful presence while working in an active school environment.
• Communicate scheduling needs, absences, or other relevant information to the Head Custodian and Custodial Team in a timely manner.
• Perform other related custodial duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

The Custodial Assistant works throughout the school building and may interact with students, teachers, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position requires the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the Head Custodian and Custodial Team. This position is part-time and designed to provide flexible custodial support during the school year, from August through May.
