Bus Driver

To represent Carbon County School District - Transportation Department in the daily transporting of students to and from school and all related functions. Assures the Mission and Philosophy of the District and department are supported throughout the position's area of responsibility.

Supports daily the Transportation Department mission of "Getting students to school ready to learn." Transporting students in a safe and courteous manner. Provide continual support for the school district Mission Statement through daily contact with students. Maintain and follow State of Wyoming requirements for a CDL with proper endorsements. Maintain insurability according to the school district's insurance requirements. Maintain criteria for Department of Transportation's driver physical. Uses positive verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction skills at all times when working with students, parents, and all district personnel. Maintain student discipline on bus utilizing district student discipline procedures. Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, or parent/guardians in any public setting and choose the appropriate time and place, and supervisor to discuss problems. Have a knowledge of and ability to follow detailed, written instructions with ability to accurately record information in writing or orally. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours. Ability to climb inside of, on top of and under assigned vehicles. Complete preventative maintenance tasks as determined and defined. Assist vehicle and building mechanics as assigned. Degrease all vehicles for summer maintenance. Clean interior and exterior of all transportation department vehicles. Fuel vehicles, Conduct pre-trip inspections as specified. Follow assigned schedule and itineraries while on trips. Exercise responsible leadership when on out of district activity trips. Ability to perform all duties as assigned. Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, or parent/guardians in any public setting and chooses the appropriate time, place, and supervisor to discuss problems. (Follows chain of command) Communicate, demonstrate professionalism and relate well with others.

Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations. Must know and apply Wyoming rules and laws of the road. Ability to recognize mechanical problems that would require stopping of bus to prevent damage or potential accident while driving. Read gauges on dash of bus and recognize indicators of problems. Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions. Possess sound emotional judgement. Possess current CDL License with airbrake, P and S endorsement. Meet current district vehicle insurance qualifications for driving coverage. Attend and successfully complete annual transportation training requirements. Reading ability adequate to follow directions resulting in making effective work decisions.

Attends and passes all First Aid, CPR, courses as required. Completes paperwork requirements with time parameters established. Attends all training and workshop classes as scheduled. Cleans and fuels bus as required. Performs pre-trip inspections as outlined by district before each and every bus run. Makes self available on varied schedules for emergencies. Uses school provided cell phone for emergencies or communication with Transportation personnel. Reports any mechanical problems immediately. Performs any other duties as assigned. Utilizes proper OSHA procedures necessary when handling body fluids.

Assist students of various physical abilities as necessary. Run lift if necessary, closing door and placing lift in travel position. Sufficient physical strength to turn steering wheel of bus with no difficulty and to open and close entrance door many times. Possess physical capability to drive bus and withstand the demands of a possible rough ride daily. Climb up on bus and crawl under bus to perform necessary pre-trip functions. Capable to physically conduct pre-trip inspections as outlined by district.

Drive in a variety of road conditions including dry, wet, icy or snow. Possess physical and mental capability to be out in any weather common to Wyoming. Rough dirt and gravel roads. Possible gas and diesel fumes. Student noise combined with radio.
