Custodian/General Maintenance Worker

Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Full‑time Custodian/General Maintenance Worker for the 2026-27 school year at Covington ISD in Covington, Texas. The position is at‑will, non‑contract on a 12‑month basis. Salaries are based on the board‑adopted 31+ step pay scale. Key Responsibilities Clean and maintain district facilities, including floors, windows, furniture, wastebaskets, and restrooms. Maintain a cleaning schedule and inventory of cleaning supplies. Assist with lunchroom set‑up, special event set‑up, and general building maintenance. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs; report major repair needs. Repair and maintain building structures, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Inspect and maintain playground equipment and grounds. Operate cleaning equipment, hand and power tools, and a light truck or van. Follow safety and security procedures, including opening/closing building, checking exit doors, and maintaining equipment. Move, assemble, and repair school furniture and playground equipment. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds. Qualifications Clear and valid Texas driver's license. One year of general building maintenance experience (preferred). Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to read and understand cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures. Ability to operate cleaning equipment, hand and power tools, and heavy equipment. Knowledge of basic construction, repair procedures, and routine building and grounds maintenance. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally) and work independently. Physical/Environmental Demands Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, lifting (45 pounds or more) daily. Frequent walking, climbing stairs and ladders; driving. Work outside and inside, exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, chemicals, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards. Work irregular hours and occasional travel.
